I think i'm allergic to one of my prescriptions, Paxil. Everything was going fine until they changed the pill. It went from a white pill to a pink one. I took it for a week and then got an awful rash on my arms. It went away when i quit taking my pills for a day or 2. Of course, it didn't take long for me to begin feeling bad again. So, I took my meds again today. Now i'm itchy everywhere.
I also began taking Abilify a month or 2 ago. I told my counselor yesterday I thought i was allergic to the Abilify suddenly. She didn't seem to think so. It hit me yesterday the changed Paxil could be the problem. It didn't hit me it could be the Paxil until last night. So i 'm telling my counselor tomorrow. But the thing is, I'm soooo TIRED of this. We've been trying for a few years to find prescrips i can take. It seems so unfair to find something that works and then it suddenly stops working or I get some stupid reaction to it. Unfair because I get a taste of feeling better (even if it's just a little) to not being able to take my meds and feeling like crap again. I'm so sick of playing pick a pill. I can't function on my own. But i'm getting to the point where I think I've tried just about everything. I've been on Paxil, Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Prozac, and about 4 others i can't think of right now. I was either allergic or they did nothing for me. I don't know what i'm going to do. I have a part time job. I need a full time job if i can find one. But i can barely force myself to work my part time job. If i can't find a med that works, I don't know what i'm going to do. I just got an appointment with social security to apply for disability. That process takes a while and i'm expecting to not be accepted and having to appeal it. I just don't know what i'm going to do anymore. I know that if i'm not on meds, I'm probably not going to be functioning well. It was pretty bad when i was off meds before for 6 or so months. I don't want to go back to that.... |

Did the dosage change or just the pill color?

Hmmm I just checked and there is a generic. I'm guessing you were taking 20mg. The 10mg is orange, the 20mg is pink, the 30mg is blue, and the 40mg is green.

It sounds like the filler they use for that particular pill may be the problem. Ask your pharmacist who the manufacturer was of the old pill you used to take and see if it is a different one now. You may have to specifically request the manufacturer.

My counselor and I talked to the nurse who called the pharmacy. It did have something to do with the manufacturer and now i have to wait until Monday to see if I can get the pills from a different manufacturer.
This when my whole world is crashing down. I have $2 until Fri and don't know how I'll afford the med again. I may have to pay more. I'm already miserable with the meds and it's getting worse without them. I know it 's not just being off the med for a few days causing everything. Between not being able to find more than part time work (despite having a degree and work experience) and having to take my mom to her doctor appointments and not having a life in general, I'm screwed. I don't know how i'm going to make the next few days.... |

Do you have health insurance? Cause health insurance should cover the medication. In addition, usually anti-depressants are pretty cheap. I don't have health insurance and was able to get a prescription for Zoloft for about $10. At least you figured out the problem, and it should get straightened out once you get the new meds.

Is there someone you can talk to at the pharmacy, or maybe your Pdoc? It doesn't sound right to have to pay for meds that you can't take?

Breathe my friend. I know how frustrating it is and how bad you are feeling. But please take a minute and breathe. Sometimes it takes a long time to come up with a combination that will work for you. It will happen. I know that it seems like it is taking forever and I am sorry you are going through such a rough time. Please know that you are in my thoughts. Sending you gentle hugs and loving thoughts. Always. ![]() ![]() dps |

I decided I can't go without them and took my usual dosage. I figured i'd rather be miserable due to an itchy rash instead of being miserably depressed.
I'm taking Benadryl at bedtime and if the rash turns into more than a rash or symptoms get bad, I'll just go to the ER. Yesterday was just really bad without the Paxil and I can't deal with that again. |

Cafegrrl,
Hang in there. The med issue will get straightened out. Contact welfare office and demand that they walk you through the medication forms and find out how you can get meds covered ASap. I hear you on the medication front. I tried a total of 32 different meds before my depression was under control. That took 3 years and there was no semblance of life. Now I am on Effexor and it works.
