My meds don't seem to be working. I think I should feel better than this.

Can anybody suggest what works for them?

First of all--how long have you been on these meds? It can take 4 to 6 for anti-depressants to start being beneficial.

Second of all--what works for one person may very well not work for another. It sometimes takes a lot of trial and error to find out what works for you

Good luck and Best Wishes

meds are not the only answer to feeling better. Psych meds are tricky and it can take trial and error to get a combination that works for you. While tweaking your meds, be sure to include therapy, posting here, exercise, etc. to help you feel better. Try to be patient and be sure to communicate your concerns about your meds to your doc. Good luck and bless!

What meds work?
  • All of them
  • None of them
What works for me?
My answer to this question - and I'm not sure I even have an answer despite years of medications - would be of no help to you due to the highly individual effects and side-effects of psychotropic medications, as Berries mentioned.
"I think I should feel better than this." Now, this is important. Tell your doctor. The more details you can offer of how you're feeling and what you're experiencing the better. Yes, it can take weeks before meds reach their peak effect. Keep note of everything in the meantime.

RACEKA, you are the customer. Try not to be intimidated by professional caregivers, like doctors. If something you've agreed to try doesn't seem to be working right, speak up and back it up with your observations of yourself.

That's a good question. I was prescribed Zoloft and took it for 2 days and quickly stopped. It gave me massive headaches and I didn't eat for like 5 days and ended up losing about 15 lbs (which put me around 100lbs).

But my doc told me the meds take around 4-6 weeks to work. No way I'm taking them that long feeling the way I did. I'll just tough it out with nothing.

You should talk to your doc and see what the suggest for you. If you don't think they're working and you've been taking them for several weeks, maybe they can prescribe you something else.

I have ben on a lot of meds that helped one of my probles (dysphoric manias) a bit and my depression only enough hto keep my nose above water. It was only recently that my meds have left me feeling normal enough to function. It is very individual and I suspect that not all depressions have the same origin biochemically. I sympathize greatly and can only add that as Rohag says, don't be intimidated into being quiet about how you feel. The pdoc needs YOU to tell him or her. They can't tell otherwise.
HHHHHHHUUUUUUGGGGGGSSSSSS!!!!! and good luck.

I'm just tired of trying meds. Pdoc switched me yesterday from cymbalta to pristiq. Maybe this will be my answer.

Thanks for your comments.
