I dont like to give advice but I always thought that if I found myself alone at Xmas I would love to volunteer at a shelter or go spend time with elderly lonely people. In the past, I have spent many Xmas with my family but felt I was alone. I hope you still have a nice Christmas and I wll be thinking of you on that day  I will also try to come on here since I would not be where I am without you all.

(((Zen))) I'm sorry to hear this. I like idontknow13's idea. I too felt alone with my own family in the past. I however have to spend Christmas day with my inlaws and i'm not really looking forward to that. I too hope you have a Merry Christmas.

I too have been there and it hurts...I'm sorry, Zen.
Zen, I think I've read that you have a dog. Maybe a nice walk and a special dinner for the two of you? My dogs and I love curling up on the couch with a special treat and a good movie when I'm feeling down. I also like Idontknow13's idea of visiting an elderly home....maybe they'll even let you bring your dog. I hope you will find your own special moment for Christmas. Take care.

I really feel for you. I spent 3 Xmas in succession alone. It was a lonely lonely time. I wish Id have had a dog at that time to keep me company. I used morningcalm's suggestion of special treats- comfort food for me- to help me get through it. We at PC will be here everyday, so please post if you feel the need- we will be here for you.
Its a horrible time of year to be alone. I hope you find the strength to make it through

I'll be alone, too. I don't really have a choice because I have to be at the airport at 9pm Christmas night.
I don't like going to church on Christmas eve or Christmas day because there's always people there with colds and the flu. So, I'll probably be here, too.

I'll be all alone on Christmas to Zen!!
If you're near me I would spend Christmas with you!!!I'm not sure what I'll be doing.. but I do like the idea of volunteering somewhere maybe...If I had money, I'd go buy children gifts and give them to kids in my nieghborhood just to see them smile! Or maybe go and buy a bunch of doggie and kitty toys and take them to the shelter. Do know....I know what your going thru..and if you'd ever like to chat or email on that day I'd love to do the same...

I'm on my own this Christmas as well and I feel scared about it. My family evicted me from their house where I was living last Christmas and since then I've been on my own, so I think it's all the fear of that time coming back to me because I was traumatised. There were threats of violence and the police were involved and I only had a month to pack up all my stuff and find somewhere to live. I was in a state of exhaustion a lot of that time so it was difficult and the snow made it impossible for me to go to where I was moving to to find a flat. In the end I had just one afternoon to find somewhere. Then I was physically ill with stress for months. I already had issues about abandonment from when I was fostered and now my family have disowned me - they don't want to see me any more.

I need help!
This is the 10th anniversary of my Mom's death (Jan./99). My Mom was my best friend and Mother. I don't see the point in celebrating Christmas or any other holiday/birthday without her. I took care of her for 5 years while she was terminally ill. I had no family support in caring for her at all. My brother has all but abandoned me. He will only communicate with me via e-mail. He knows where I live and my telephone number. For my birthday he sent me a brief last minute happy birthday e-mail...stating not happy birthday but happy b-day. In this e-mail my brother made no mention of Christmas at all. And he e-mailed me again asking if I wanted to go out for coffee this week...not a leisurely coffee date...all I get is an hour if I am lucky. I am sick and tired of being treated like scum and like I don't have feelings. I will be all alone for Christmas. All I have is my 6 pound dog to keep me company. I am putting off my Christmas dinner shopping till Wednesday because I cannot tolerate the Christmas music and decorations in the grocery store...too painful. All I want to do is sleep all day but my body and medication keep me awake. I fight the urge on a daily basis not to take my sleeping medication during the daytime.

I am so sorry you are going through this, I wish I could do something to make you feel better. Do take good care of yourself, you are important and dont let your brother or anyone else make you feel like scum. What you did for your mom is wonderful and you should feel great about yourself, your mother would be very proud of you as you should be. |

((((((((((Zen888))))))))) It's hard when Christmas is marred by such a tragedy. Would your mother have enjoyed cellebrating with you? I really suspect that she knows you think of her. In that way, I think those who passed on are always with us, , hon. You won't be celebrating her going, but her presence. Huggs in this difficult time, Zen.

you are never alone and we are all here.
i have felt my most alone at times when my house was full to the brim with relatives who could care less about each other. what stupid things to spend time with people that don't care. i don't think you are alone at all as we can all be together, all for each other. i'm new here and i know no one knows me, but i wish you all peace and joy this holiday season, let's wrap our arms around each other for a big group hug! shelley |
