It seems that no psychiatrist in this town is taking new patients. I haven't seen the old T in 10 years, so I'm a "new patient" and he isn't accepting either. MHMR can't help me either - too much money and no doctor available until June. The only dr. I found might be able to see me in May...I don't think I will last until May.

Ideas?

Hi, Englishteacher!

Someone very recently, either in this forum or one of the others, suggested finding a depression or bipolar support group meeting in your area. They could provide some sort of support and be a great "treatment networking" resource.

Here are sites related to the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA):
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) Home Page
DBSA Support Groups and Chapters
DBSA Support Groups and Chapters Directory (Terms of Use)

Just a thought...though I'm not sure exactly what your needs are. You may want to try your family doc/or nurse Pract. to get started on meds for much less than going to a psych until you can get into one. Whatever happens, just hang in there....

I don't have a family doctor either. I have no insurance. I can't afford the doctor, the meds, etc. I had a family doctor, but his idea was always to wean me from meds. He was actually quite nasty to me several times. Although I don't necessarily disagree that taking care of my body is important, I lose that ability when I'm depressed. It's like Ron White says about being arrested for public intoxication...
"I had the right to remain silent, but I did not have the ability."

Some people don't like meds, and that's fine for them. The simple fact of the matter is that they help a lot of people. I'd be dead without my Wellbutrin.

Exercise, sunlight, and getting out are supposed to help. So is talking about your problems. Trouble is, when we're at our lowest, these things are just not likely.
Looking for help for yourself is a challenge, I admire that you've gotten this far. It sounds like your location doesn't have much in the way of therapeutic resources. You should be proud of yourself for lasting this long.

This site seems like a perfect place to talk about your problems. Clearly expressing yourself almost always helps. I would like to hear more about what you're feeling. Feel free to message me, if you want to, or just post again. I wish you the best.

thanks doesn't matter. I'm here at 5:00 a.m. again. I was afraid to log in today. I let go in a couple of forums yesterday and I'm afraid of the reaction. I don't feel any better, but as usual, I regret that things I said may have upset someone else.

I know exactly how you feel. I made a post, and I had to resist the temptation to delete it both while I was doing it, and every minute after I posted it. I'm glad you did, though! With the drinking thing, pretty much if you know you're doing it for release, it's best to sleep as soon as you can. Booze has a point where it encourages indulgence in self-destructiveness.

It's probably a forum taboo to comment on your other posts in this one, so I won't do it again, ha.

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
