I can usually give good advice, but when it comes to myself, it just seems like my mind goes blank. I thought i would be able to over come this depression on my own, but the fact i have picked up drinking and causing myself physical pain to mask the emotional pain, i fear i am in a dangerous spiral downward. As i am writing this, i am drinking the last glass of a bottle of wine that was full only moments ago.

Have i seeked professional help, absolutely. But with a monday to friday job, 8 to 5, im not able to see a doctor or a psychiatrist. The few i did find that have extended hours, are booked and arnt able to see me. So right now, i have not seen any sort of professional about my depression.

I dont know what to do.

Don't give up on seeing a professional. It took me awhile before I got in to see my therapist, but as soon as I did I felt immensely better and was able to easily get more appointments with her. Don't give up! Wishing you the best.

One of the best things to do is to talk about your issues
with a professional. Now with all these new technological advances in our present day you ca even " skype"
with a professional over the computer, or just talk on the phone.
I wish you all the best!

All jobs will give you time off to see a doctor. They know that people can't always get appointments after 5 PM or before 8 AM. Talk with your supervisor about it. Or go to an urgent care with after hours and see a GP for starters. That's for meds. For therapy, many, many therapists have flexible hours with evenings and weekends availabe to see working people. Even if you have a psychiatrist, they may want you to find your own therapist.

You are right to seek help if you see yourself spiraling downwards. Good luck to you--write to us again if we can help in any way.

Welcome to PC......posting your thoughts here can be a good place to start but definitely for serious depression, the only help can come through professionals. Many times it's a chemical imbalance thing going on in the brain & meds can help....but coping skills & ability to handle yourself through depression is a wonderful help...DBT therapy can teach some skills that we all seem to be missing.

If you have a religion, it can sometimes help & sometimes not from my experience. My church didn't know how to deal with the horrible feelings I had while depressed so weren't the help I had hopped they would be....but other churches do support in a wonderful way....& God knows & understands beyond what any church does most times

The problem is my job is brand new and unionized, meaning im on probation and i dont get any time off until next year, and since its a brand new shift, i cant change my shift. So looks like im stuck. I did try therapy via email back in december, that was a waste of time and money, im pretty sure i need the in person one, or something i dont know. What other alternatives are there out there in the world?
