im going down today or tomrrow to sign up for ssi for a health card... does anyone know how long it takes to get approved for one?

SSI will take several months to get. at best....you've got about a 40% chance of being approved the first time, according to Social Security's numbers. I do know of one person who got it in six weeks, but he spent some time rounding up all his medical and psychiatric records before he went, so he could turn them in with his application, thus saving them the time and trouble of doing it.

Maybe 6 months? I can't remember how long it took mine to go through, but I got it the very first time.
