Hi am new to this - I have a mind that is rattling on about going to hospital a lot and have some lows. Also anxious obsesive thoughts about how to get better. Pretty hard to live with. Some moments of clarity in recent months. Rough 16 months. Would go anywhere not to feel this way. Attend a support group called Recovery - it helps. But living day to day. Confidence shot. On medication - helps a little. Thats it really - even thinking of trying a new treatment called rTMS.

Clarity is good. Are those hopeful moments?

The battle with negative and/or obsessive thoughts... Argh! Personally, I have been unsuccessful in directly attacking such thoughts. Whatever success I've had has come from cultivating other thoughts or preoccupations to "crowd out" the unwanted ones.

May 2012 be a year of progress for you.

Hey there, Jackal, glad you found us at PsychCentral. I've been trying to get away from depression since I was eight--almost like a game of run for your life. But I think I catch your meaning--if I got a phone call from someone promising to hide me from my foe if I'd go to Fargo, ND, I'd move there tomorrow.

I've never known a day without it since I was a kid. You? Do you remember when you were okay? That's the oddest thing ... I can remember being someone else, without this gigantic storm about to break inside their soul.

Keep coming back. I think you might find a safe little nest here.

I am new, too, and don't know what I'm doing in terms of the groups and posting or whatever. I hope I'm doing this right. I guess I should read all the "How Tos", wherever they are. Funny how the though of even doing that sounds exhausting. That would be the depression rearing it's ugly head.
