Has anyone tried using a cyber psychologist? For the next 4 months, I will not be in one place long enough to find an in-person therapist and actually spend enough time to make any progress. I'm badly in need of help and don't want to wait until my schedule settles down. So, I'm thinking about trying to find a psychologist that will work with me via email. Do any of you have experience that could tell me whether this is a good/bad idea, or even provide a recommendation?

Thanks,
LMo

About 6 months ago I looked into the same thing....For me...it was very positive. I'll go back through my emails and find what site I went through. I spoke with a very caring and good therapist.
If you have the means to do it...I'd say go right ahead....I found it was alot easier for me to be open with my feelings and revealed and talked about alot more with her than I have or would have any face-to-face therapist.

Thanks Serenity - what do you mean "if you have the means"? Are they more expensive than regular therapists? Does insurance not cover it? That part didn't occur to me!

Anything you can find would be great - thanks!

There were alot available when I looked into it.....I narrowed it down to one I liked...you have to have a credit card...not sure about the insurance side...I didnt have insurance so Ididnt ask...they probably are compareable in rates. But jsut like a reg office they vary from one to another...Im looking for the one I had right now and will PM it to as soon as I find it
I have to say...it's pretty sad when you cant get the therapy or counseling or Dr you need cause you cant afford it but cant get medical coverage either. People need and want help...and cant get it anyway...somehow that jsut isnt right.

I hear you - that's a personal pet peeve of mine. I got turned down for insurance because I had seen a therapist DURING MY DIVORCE. Unbelievable. You'd think that we'd be lower risk because we're actually getting the help we need, rather than letting it boil inside and then going postal. Grrr.....

Major frustration of mine as well. I think anyone who seeks help...should get it. Its hard enough to want it and seek it...then to be told no, sorry? That isnt right.....I do realize it is a profession....and a job...job meaning being paid for it. But there are enough other options where it should be covered I see NO excuse...none...not money...not anything period...Now Im gettin ticked thinking about it so Im shushin lol
I will send thaat link soon as I find it was several months ago but Ill find it

I had to jump through hoops to get insurance for my boyfriend. I applied at several companies a few weeks before his student policy expired. The only insurance company that accepted him sat on the application for 65 days ... and then said that because there was more than a 60-day lapse between his old policy and his new one, they wouldn't cover him for any preexisting conditions. I pleaded with them to make the start date retroactive, but... nope. Great. So now I'm stuck paying cash for all his medical bills.

I found a link when I was searching the web. It's www.worldoftherapy.com. They have therapists online 24 hours a day and you don't need to make an appt. It's also cheap ($30 a month for unlimited use) so you don't have to worry about the insurance . For me it's great, because I don't like to sit face to face with someone. I just log on when I feel like it. Hope this helps!

Thanks again!

Once again, thank you! I just had a 1 hour session with a therapist there and I think this will be a great solution for me. You have just solved a big logistical problem of mine -- I'm going to be in South America for 3 weeks starting Sunday, and then again for 2.5 months this winter, and I really didn't want to wait until April to get help.

I owe you one!

LMo

I'll be in Brazil this trip (for work), then in January, I'm going to be working in Brazil again for about 4-6 weeks. As soon as I'm done with the project, I'm staying for a month or so and travelling around. I'm planning to see more of Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, possibly the Galapogos Islands, possibly Venezuela, and then end it in Aruba. Haven't finalized anything yet, mostly because I don't know when my real "end date" is on my project, so I'm going to have to be flexible. I will definitely take tons of pictures! But not my cell phone (not that it would work anyway) and not my laptop. Will have to seek out the internet cafes. In which part of South America did you live? Do you have any advice for me?

We are ALL going to be a-ok!

Dont drink the water hehehe..oh wait that's Mexico...nevermind

I lived everywhere "except" Brazil...My favorites were Montivideo, Uruguay (A MUST to see!!!!!), Buenos Aires(though I heard it isnt so hot anymore ) and Venezuela...a definite too.l also lived in Columbia and Puerto Rico.
You should stop by Panama too while you're out n about.
I loved the history sites....like the Incan cities and the history of the Gauchos and "indians". You have to makje your way through the city street markets...its breathtaking and prices are incredible. You can stay and watch as a sunwrinkled old woman makes something specifically for you with her own hands...their work is amazing.....HAVE to get a poncho...its a must.
I love all the tradition based spanish background stuff....When do you leave? I can get an actual list and location of the "Cant miss" stuff if ya want. I think you'll love it.
It was great growing up there....so much different than the states...drugs with kids werent an issue nor alot of the violent crime here you see...gangs etc...so raising your children there was ideal. The crime was kept to the big wig adults lol...Unfortunately my dad was a hgiher up in Goodyear so kidnapping and hostage situations were always a concern there. He lost some friends sothey had very tight security for the families. But as a child I was kept from alot of that and the guards fit right in with the servants and I thought I jsut had alot of playmates lol.
Anyway I hope you find the outer areas that are truly the best over the "tourist traps" blech.
I recall not being able to cross a river once because it was so high from recent rains...we stayed on one side of it in a small two room adobe "police station" lol...They treated us tlike their own family. They are huge on family down there and especially children.

EXCELLENT information Serenity - thank you!
I hope to be off the beaten path - I prefer my travel adventures that way - but I'm also going to be a woman travelling alone so I'm going to have to play it by ear safety-wise. It's one thing in Europe or Asia; totally a different thing in South America.

I'd love the "Can't Miss" list -- you're really helping me out these days! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
