What do you tell a friend that is suicidal (it's my real life friend) when you are fighting to live yourself. Don't worry about me I've signed a contract for life with my therapist and am trying to beat this thing moment by moment. But how can you help a friend in the same situation or can you?

Ah Green... it's a good question. I know the predicament that you're in. It is kind to help your friends during a situation like that, but the fact is that if you're not a trained in suicide prevention, then you're not the right person to be giving help. Plus, the trauma it causes you isn't fair to YOU.
But I know the panicky feeling of being in that situation. With my husband, I had the phone number of a mental health mobile crisis service at the ready, and I told him that I would not hesitate to call them if I thought he could be suicidal. You could talk to your friend and offer to call them on his/her behalf. Here are some resources you can give to your friend: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK (1-800-273-8255) Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433) Suicide & Crisis Hotline 1-800-999-9999 National Adolescent Suicide Hotline 1-800-621-4000 The Trevor Helpline (specializing in gay and lesbian youth suicide prevention) 1-800-850-8078

As sad as it is.... I found that I could not help my own best friend when she was fighting for her life while I as fighting for mine - she would pull me down when I had already fallen and was struggling to get back up.... I learned to just love her and let her chat when she needed, but not if I could not handle it at the moment.

I don't try to take care of other peoples suicidal thoughts be it on line or in person. Its hard enough holding myself to this world. so when a person comes to me be it in real life or on line I tell them I can't help them with this but I can put them in touch with agencies for therapy and go with them to a few of their appointments. Then I show them where I go for therapy and if they want help them with scheduling the intake appointment.

Thanks all....I called her therapist for her...which is also my therapist and left a message for her about what was going on. Her therapist called her and she's working it out with her therapist...she still talks to me about it but is not looking to me for answers now...it's still stressful though

Dealing with this, especially when you're dealing with it yourself, has got to be one of the most stressful situations a person could face. I'm glad you got her to talk to her therapist.
