For a good month and a half now, I have been coping with some very disturbing and anxious thoughts about harming my parents. I knew from the moment I had the thought that I wouldnt act on it, but for some reason I cant get it out of my head. I sometimes think "What if my parents were gone, everything would look the same, right?" Of course, it wouldn't. but the thought goes through my mind and it makes me think that im a cold blooded killer or something. Also, my thoughts coupled with my overactive imagination can create a hell on earth for me. I for some reason picture myself acting on these thoughts and (most disturbingly) dealing with the aftermath. I am Terrified by these thoughts, and I feel somethimes like I cant trust my own mind. I have been seeing a psycologist not only at a private organization but also at my school. I am also seeing a psychiatrist, who put me on an antidepressant which after a few weeks really made a difference. I think the main thing that really makes me feel a lot better in this situation is sharing my experience with others, to maybe find some advice, which is why I joined this website. Any kind of advice or support would be greatly appreciated.

I'm glad the antidepressant is working! Just keep on keepin' on. You're strong; you'll get through this. And you'll be even stronger for it in the end.

You don't say how old you are -- since you mention "school" are you a teenager???

I ask because sometimes antidepressant CAUSE these horrible thoughts in young people!!! Have you discussed this with your doctor/psychiatrist??? I would ask him if it's possible these thoughts might be caused by the drug. Did these thoughts begin AFTER you started the drug or before? Did they INCREASE with the drug?? Drs. have to be very careful when prescribing to young people -- even those in their twenties. An antidepressant can "backfire" on younger folks.

Perhaps you can "wean" off the medication and see what happens when you're off it. You CANNOT stop taking it abruptly as that's dangerous -- but talk to him about it and see what he thinks. Perhaps these thoughts will stop, depending on when they started.

I wish you the very best. I hope you don't have to contend with this for long as I'm sure it's very upsetting! Please take care and keep posting! We'll be here. God bless. Hugs, Lee

Thanks for your support, lee. Yes, these thoughts started before I started taking the antidepressant. At that point in time I was taking an ADD/ADHD pill called concerta. Im not on it anymore, since it seemed to make me feel even more down. I am in high school, and my doctor knows that information, we're taking this at a good cautious pace. Again, thank you and all those that replied for your kind words and support!!

I am also glad the anti-depression medication is working sometimes it does take a while. I think we all have bad thoughts sometimes the good thing is that you are aware of them and you know they are bad, so I hope you will not act on them which i don't think you will. Sounds like you are doing everything right and you have a lot of support which is good. We are here for you also if you just want to vent this is a good place to do it. Sending positive vibes and good thoughts your way! take care.
