what can you do if you ph your local crisis line and they don't want to know? I rung the one connected to my hospital, said my nurse had made me promise her to ring if i needed to, and when i finally worked up the courage to they asked for my name...i wouldn't give it to them so they said they couldn't help me and hung up. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

(((irish)))) Several of us here at PC have had similar bad experiences with hotlines!
Call them back and give them ANY name and see if that works. If not, ask them why they need your name in the first place (maybe funding behind it, you know?) grrrr If you can't talk to them now in any therapeutic way, at least call them and give them your name and ask them to at least leave a message for that nurse that you called. Try another hotline...a national one or such...

I have used befrienders and they were great! I sat on the phone for over an hour with them one night. I think it is weird they hung up on you being they are suppose to be a hotline.
HUGS Cher

Sorry Irishsj..no one should be treated like that just because you dont want to give them your name..just trying to reach out when your in pain is hard enough..but to just hang up and not talk to you, knowing that you wouldnt be calling in the first place if you didnt need to talk thru your pain..is heartless..they could at least of tried to understand and could have taken a few minutes to get you to open up to whats going on..the name issue should have been a secondary consideration...I agree the National Hotlines offer supportive caring resources..hope you are feeling a little better..take care

I volunteer for a domestic violence and sexual assault crisis line and with ours, they need a name for their records, in case anything happens and they find themselves involved a legal bind. It's not for the purpose of going through someone's records, and the advocates do not take the time to do that -- they are there to respond immediately to the call for help.
I suppose you could make up a name just to get past their requirement.

down here, esp as i have already been 'made known' to the team, they WOULD go straight to the records... but thanx guys. I've given up on those lines for a while. Part of living in such a small town i s'pose. I know ppl who work for the national line- the calls tend to all stay down here in the community...so it's not really national!!

((((((((( irishsj ))))))))) I don't know what part of the world you are in but you could try ringing - The Samaritans, they have a website too where you can Email them if you want to stay anon. They don't ask for your name if you phone them anyway. And you don't have to be suicidal either, if you just need to talk. Thinking of you.

thanx pegasus... if that is the same as the befrienders then I got a link from cher, but coz of how little the place is (in nz) where i live we don't have a line for them- only in some of the bigger cities. It tells you to ring the national line (so there we go, full circle!!). But thanx

irishsj, If you click on, 'no suicidal posts please' under the 'Depression forum' heading, it leads you to a link more 'suicide resources' If you click on that it will give you a list of national numbers that you can ring. Sorry, if you have already tried this but trying to help ![]() Keep safe.

thanks. yeah, i clicked on there before, but yesterday i had just worked myself into such a state, all i wanted was for someone to help calm me down and talk...and i did what my nurse had got me to promise her i would do- phone them. I will be telling her of their pathetic response to my call. (Oh, i have called them before, and never had a prob like this... i did give them my name 1x too, and they wrote up my call in my file a nd passed it on to my nurse but she is away for at least another week and i do not know the person she has asked to cover her...). But to help lines, I GIVE UP. At the mo, never again...I'm rather over them now.

My EAP wasn't to good. They constantly ask if I felt safe. But, if you have an Employee assistance program you could try them. She had claimed to me that they can act as a suicide prevention line. But, I think they are too paranoid for me to talk to them about that subject ever again. I don't know anything about the national lines. My local 211 guy was nice. They aren't very good on resources but they can probably listen to a person. I suspect they aren't very highly trained. So they would probably over react to a thought of suicide. I find that only people who are used to "treating" people with mental problems and "mentally ill" people respond to thoughts of suicide in a reasonable/non overreactive way. People are afraid of law suits and things.
