Hello!
My name is Mistie, I'm 23, and I suffer from depression. I know I do, I've been diagnosed with it before. Yet.. I'm not being treated. There is a lot of stuff in my background that is to blame. But I'm not going to go into that. I guess the only thing that needs to be stated is that I can't seem to find an out. I cry over stupid things, I get angry at myself for doing it and that drags me down further. I can't believe I've been with the same man for 2.5 years. He's a trooper and I know that he really loves me. Thee thing I really wanted to ask you though.. Is how do I get help? I'm lost and have hit a brick wall. I work full time and my company offers insurance, but it's aweful. So I pay for my own insurance with Blue Cross Blue Sheild of Texas. Because it is an individual insurance they do not cover mental health. I don't want to switch insurance companies to the one my job offers because it is really that bad, even if it did cover mental health it wouldn't cover much of anything else. I have looked into the plans here in Texas that are offered to help people and their mental health, but I make a couple hundred more a month than they will allow for coverage. I do not make enough money to cover my bills and go see a therapist. What the hell do I do now? It gets worse everyday and I feel as though I'm drowning. I hate this. |

Do you have a mental health center in your community? You might be able to get a referral for therapist or a pdoc. Even if you have insurance they are still a good source of referral for providers. Best of luck.

mmmm each state is different, which makes it hard to suggest things. All I can say is do things for yourself... like taking care of yourself everyday. Life is hard, and then you add in mental health, which makes things interesting. You can find a way to get help, just keep looking and never give up.

Hello.
Depression is the pits; finding help is also tough. There might be a support group in your community - search for the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance. You can also try pastoral counseling, if you are so inclined. I get help from my parish priest. He's not a psychologist, but he certainly knows how to listen and guide me in the right direction. For meds, you can ask you primary MD for something that they might be able to provide samples of. When I was on Lexapro I was in the same insurance problem area (still am) and my doctor provided me with sample packs. If there is a graduate school of psychology or social work in your area, they might have a clinic that provides free or sliding-scale fee services. Good luck to you. Keep checking in an let us know how this progresses. |
