My partner has just informed that the past couple of months I have spent three times what I normally do. I swear I didn't spend that much

i've done that too lately!

the money i had that was meant to last me the whole summer went on a mannic shopping spre on amazon- most of the stuff i ordered i didon't even want in the first place.

so i know what that is like... now i want to order something from their, something that i actually want to use, and i've no money to do it.

Yup. Most of it was uneeded rubbish. Really didn't think I'd spent that much. Haven't yet told him about the other credit cards. Guess I just get bored when I can't sleep

Why does spending make you feel good and then bad?

It's called "immediate gratification".....which usually does not last, especially if whatever you've done ends up causing problems in the long term..... (I have that problem with eating, darn it!)

I tend to order things because I like getting mail. I get excited when I'm expecting something. It is the gratification thing, I know. My credit card needs to go away. I just end up feeling stressed about money after paying for stuff I don't need.

I can kind of relate, whenever I have money I end up spending far to much of it on useless garbage like junk food and sodas....or booze, when I don't even really feel like drinking. Or I end up losing track of what all I've gotten. Or with my credit card as of late I used it a few times and now I gotta pay the bill with money I cannot garantee I have. I got it taken care of this month so I am trying to just let it go for now...and worry about getting the minimum payment for next month in when the time comes.

After I get the $260 paid off though I think I'll probably cancel the thing, just causes me too much stress even if I use it when I for sure have the money in cash or in my bank account. I feel like kind of an idiot for using my credit card the past few times though......I was already under too much stress so the last thing I should have been doing was creating more debt with my credit card.

Another money issue I have is I also end up getting ahead of myself spending a lot on other people....I like to be generous when I have money but I think sometimes I over-do it and forget I should think about the things I need that I could use the money for before I go spending it on everyone else.

get a small notebook and keep track of everything you spend. quickly you'll see how it all adds up even if it's a buck for a soda. yes, sometimes knowing isn't what you want to do (denial) but do it and you'll feel a lot better! you'll think twice about what and why you're spending. I'm right there with you, but you need to take control of your spending.

have you tried any of the couponing sites? I use pocketyourdollars.com (I'm sure you have something similar in your area). I get to shop with few dollars. I get free stuff. I get the "high" of buying without spending. items I get for free that I don't use I donate to charity that way other people benefit from my "shopping." it's a fun game to see how much you can get for so little.

just a couple suggestions.

I do the same thing...call it Retail Therapy...get so pumped when I find something (frequently Amazon) and buy it, then when I get it in the mail it's like yippeee! then it goes in the closet and I get the bill and think where in the world did I spend all that?!
