Hi forum-ers!
I just joined the forum yesterday as a way to be pro-active in my hopeful recovery from my intense depression and anxiety symptoms. Does anybody out there have suggestions and/or strategies for calming my mind? In particular, I have a lot (too many!) thoughts about my ex, about running into her, about failing at another relationship, about not being capable to function as a normal human being. These thoughts pop up at any and all times, and it is seriously affecting my well-being. I welcome any and all suggestions from those who have (had) similar experiences, as I'm getting quite hopeless that I'll never be able to recover. |

Hi RJ,
I know how hard it is to struggle with negative thoughts, I always felt hopeless because of them during my depressive episodes. But things do get better with time. What helped me a lot was David Burns' book Feeling Good, and the strategies of CBT which are described there. It introduces you to dysfunctional thoughts and how to fight against them. CBT requires practice. And do you have a therapist? I've heard that mindfulness helps a lot too. Whatever works for you, I'm sure you'll find out the right thing with time. Hugs, and hope you feel better soon! |

Thanks Moodie-girl,
I went to my first depression support group last night and it felt good to be in a crowd of people who just understood. And also, I think it's a nice way to care for myself. Yes, the negative thought patterns are so hard to breakout of. I do have Burns' book, and I do practice, but I could do so much more. Thanks again for the message! |
