My life has gone to Hell in a Hand Basket over the last few month. I was injured at work, went back to work and ended up with a wound infection which put me in the hospital for several days. My Ins. said it's work injury so they won't pay. Work says it's not a work injury so they won't pay. Mean while I am taken off work to heal and got fired for excessive absence. I have been off for several months with no income. I found out I am now disabled and require a brace to be able to walk but since I was fired I have no Ins. and I have to come up with $1500.00 before they will even order the brace. Now I have now Job, No Money, No Insurance so no medical brace so I can walk and get healed correctly. My wife pretends to be supportive but at the same time makes comments on Facebook making me sound worthless because she is the only one working and we can't afford anything because I am off work. I just don't know what to do anymore, I want to work, I miss my job but I physically can't work. I am ready to just give up on everything including my life!

Hey,

You may want to see your doc about getting some antidepressants on board. When you have situational depression, meds can act as a safety net. I don't know what size town you live in, so I don't know what is available. Have you tried to get workmans comp? Is there an employment center where you can go look for work and get help learning new skills? They also give workshops. You would meet others who are in the same situation for support. Get out of the house daily or you just sit with yourself and your thoughts. Right now, you are lousy company. Keep posting

Take gentle care,

Sabra

If you are still in a lot of pain, try to find a pain management clinic near you. If they will take you on as a patient, they may be able to help you get disability. That way it isn't just coming from you. You have a Dr. backing you up on your claim. You can also check with some of the law offices that will look at your case for worker's comp free and will not charge unless you win.

With the present economy, finding work isn't easy for anyone, let alone someone with a disability. There are some jobs that can be done over the phone. They probably are not up to your standards of what you would like in a job, but its worth looking. At least it would give you a little income.

Have you spoken to your wife about her comments on facebook? Let her know that she is hurting you and breaking a confidence by posting your personal business.

I feel for you. If I did not have my own business, I would be right where you are, and may wind up there anyway. I have a chronic pain condition and its cut my ability to work to three half days a week, often only one. My insurance is over six hundred a month out of pocket because of all the medications, proceedures etc. and often I can't afford to pay myself. My income is well below the poverty level and my insurance alone takes over half my monthly earnings. Were I not living with a couple of friends, I'd be on the street. All you can do is keep on keeping on. Its scary, makes you feel inadequate and useless and your ego really takes a beating. Usually there is a way around the medical things, but it takes a lot of digging and calls to find the loopholes.

In the meantime, remember that you are not worthless. You are in a bad situation that was not your fault and has no bearing on you as a person. I don't know what your wife's income is or the economy of your area, but you might see if you are eligable for food stamps or other community help. Don't be embarrassed to use those services. They were put in place for people in your situation. There is no sense in shying away from them just to save your pride. Don't let your wife make you feel like you are a sub-human. It could just as easily have happened to her.

Yes. I strongly suspect your situation requires a legal expert to untangle the work-insurance-disability mess.

I would get a lawyer and sue. If they fired you due to absence related to your injury that's unlawful. Get a lawyer to get this changed and allow you to get health insurance. This doesn't add up at all.
