For some reason, my insecurities are overcoming me today. I cannot stop dwelling and am stressing about this new job I have. I am afraid I am going to sabotage myself tomorrow if I do not knock out of this. I am obsessive about making mistakes... I know that making mistakes at a new job isnt the end of the world but I feel like it is and like I am not a competent person and just want to give up before I even get a chance to learn things.

I have the television on as a bit of a distractor from all of the thoughts but that is not exactly working either. I am not able to sleep because I am too busy thinking about my busy day tomorrow and have this pent-up energy from the stress Anyone have a similar experience or overcame it before?

Oh, yes, I can relate. I have felt that way many times!

Tv never, ever works for me. It only stresses me out more. Music helps me relax. As long as the music is classical or nature sounds ~ no words. If words, that only gives me more to think (worry) about. I bought a clock radio with a sleep function to help me fall asleep more easily. It will play ocean sounds (my fave!), a brook, birds (that gets me too anxious), and something else.

If you still have too much energy, maybe sitting down (in another room) for 20 minutes to read a chapter of a book; crossword puzzle or word-search; write in a journal...then try going back to bed again. No tv in bed. Just light music or white noise.

Very best wishes to you! You'll do just fine tomarrow. Keep repeating that to yourself ~ as many times as you have to. You will be fine, the day will go by, and hopefully you'll make a friend or two! take care....

Dear Pink28, I know all to well how it feels to be insecure about ones' competence. I agree with everything Shezbut says but for me TV is great. I use it to baby-sit my mind by distracting it. But everyone is different. I also use white noise--ocean sounds. I also distract myself with mahjong solitaire and hidden object games also find the difference games. These kind of games get my attention just enough without overwhelming me.
My journal is essential. I've kept it up four 4 years now. It helps to get out on paper.
Maybe it can help to ask questions at your new job so you'll feel more in control of the situation.
I hope you can get some rest and feel better.

Try guided relaxation. Google guided relaxation mp3. See if you can find something you like. The idea is to relax each body part till you become calm. For me it usually works. Heavy medicine sometimes. Very healthy to use the bodies natural brain chemistry.
