Today I was/ am feeling completely outside of myself. I believe I am unrecognizing myself and the world around me more and more each day. I looked at pictures of me when I was younger and I didn't recognize myself in them...also today at the store with my mother and grandfather, I went my separate way from them and I was gone for a good 10 mins. When I finally found them, I viewed them as just two people who didn't know me. I, for a moment didn't associated them to me or me to them. I think I am getting worse as far as feeling different and dissociating from the familiar. Any thoughts or comments on this?

Are you sleeping and eating enough? I often find that my own feelings of dissociation or being outside myself are exacerbated when I'm hungry and tired! How long have you been dealing with these feelings?

You need to get help NOW. This isn't very good for you. A professional will know exactly what you are talking about and will be able to guide you in the right direction to be helped.
Please do not hesitate. If necessary call one of the helplines in your community or the numbers listed at the top of this forum re: Depression Resouces.
Tell your family what is happening. They really need to know.
Let us know how you are doing OK?

I guess so, I haven't changed anything. I've always had problems with sleeping and eating but nothing has been different for me lately. I started feeling this way maybe about 3 months ago, but I think its getting worse and more noticeable to me.

I don't think its very serious. I have told my mom, but she just says she has those days too. I have told my T too and she thinks is just my meds, which it may be.

Glad to hear you mentioned this to your T. Have you just begun them, 3 months ago? Is the disassociation, perhaps that 'emotionally numb' feeling that many describe while taking them?

Have you checked out the Psychiatric Meds forum here, to compare notes with others on a similar medication? May be able to get more insight as to why it happens.

PsychCentral Medication Library - scroll down for an alphabetized list
US National Institute of Mental Health - Medications
PsychCentral Psychiatric Medications Forum

Learn as much about your specific medications as you can. Some side effects are more frequent, others less so, and all of them can vary greatly among individuals.

Thanks for those links, but I take Hydroxyzine, which was not listed, and apparently no one takes it. I posted back about a month ago, in that forum, if anyone else took it, but got little feed back.

Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine, GenCat, which is an antiserotogenic medication. It
has few really serious side effects except for the elderly, and it can in rare instances
cause hallucinations or act as an hypnotic.

Chances are you're having side effects that are not considered serious, but if it continues to get worse, I would discuss it with my psychiatrist; there might be a change called for if it is bothersome.

One thing we have to face is that if we're going to take psychotropic medications, we
need to do our research to find out what the side effects are and try to side step them if
we can by watching our diet in an effort to reduce any effects that are troublesome.

Your medication is also called Atavax or Vistoril. It's one of the safer medications.

Look up your med on Wikipedia encyclopedia for more information.

Take care.
