Does being feeling lonely make depression even worse. It seems hard to get better when you often feel like you're on your own.

At least for me it does. When someone is with me, I don't sit around and meditate on the negatives, but instead enjoy their company and think about them.
This doesn't mean it has to be my wife (I'm like a quail and get all lonely when she's gone), just anyone like a friend or the kids. |

Yes being around people offers me enough of a distraction sometimes to make it through the day. However it can be a fine line because there is some effort to not let anyone know I am depressed to begin with.
However overall distractions are good for me because when I am stuck in my own head nothing good comes from that. |

Me too. Even though people are the cause of my anxiety disorder, spending time around them does distract me from feeling low. Now it's the summer holidays (I'm school age), I am either home alone or at work, and it's soul-crushing. It feels like everyone went out and got a life, and they are happy with being independent, whereas I need another person with me to feel alive. That concept alone is depressing enough!
But chins up... hopefully we can endure this feeling. Best wishes

I feel exactly the same as Crook 32. People do offer a distraction but there can be so much more that comes along with that to deal with as well. I'd still rather be around people and find a way than be alone and lonely, which just makes me feel depressed.
