I went to a counselor at my university. She seemed helpful. It was nice talking to someone.I still have this horrible feeling of insecurity. Now, other issues are re surfacing. Iam counting steps,houses, cars anything I see. I cant stop!!! If I step on a crack I know I will have a bad day. If someone laughs before I enter a room, Iam going to have a bad day. If someone reaches the steps before I do, I will have a bad day. Iam repeating words and phrases over and over( its like a hicup in my brain)Its all in my head, but I can't seem to control it. I have had this problem before, but its gotten worse. Has anyone had this problem? Any suggestions on how to stop it. Am I going crazy?

You are not going crazy, you just have an imbalance in your brain somewere that needs corrected, medication or counseling may help. It sounds like you are aware of the problem and getting help, which is the first step! Great job on that, you can also research a lot on this website about your feelings to see what the problem may be. Hang in there, it will get better

Welcome to PC. No, you are not going crazy. Its great that your counsellor seems helpful, mine was the same way and I still go back to her, even months later! Talk to your counsellor and she can help you. ![]() Take care.

I do the counting thing to get rid of unwanted thoughts. I think when it gets excessive, as you have described, it could be indicative of an untreated mental illness. Talk to your supportive counsellor & report back to us. Take care.--Suzy
