...in all due respect though...when thinking of the "omnipotent" we can only relate to what we have learned in our 70 odd years...or what others before us have passed on to us. How can we possibly get more spiritual than that. The belief that the "almighty" would be pissed at our "exercising" our new found free will is a very earth bound mortal concept. How could we possibly understand immortal? I would have to think abstractly that good and evil are older than we can know though and that the choice is still ours to take. Christ spoke of this.
Our concept to eternal is like asking a 5 year old which Summer was his or her "most excellent". ...as compared to the rest of their life...and THAT is a small comparison! Impossible. We can't begin to know or fathom what "heaven " can be like. If we can't experience unending bliss in our 70 odd...how can we expect to know what is prepared for us in the "great hereafter".
It is promised though...and that much I'll put my faith in.

woods-

All religions believe in heaven and hell and all religions have different views whether or not suicide is a sin. In Catholic - it is. In Islam - it isn't (Jihad).

So... the question really... why are you thinking whether or not suicide is a sin? Are you feeling suicidal or making suicide plans?

If you are feeling suicidal due to clinical depression - please seek help immediately. You can call friends or visit a voluntary H. You know that suicidal thoughts in clinical depression is biological and its symptom is temporary.

If you are feeling suicidal to other reasons (adjustment issues, personality issues, etc) - then get some psychotherapy. Or talk therapy with friends/family that you trust. Someone who won't judge you for these thoughts and is able to give you an objectional perspective.

Woods, I hope that you get the care and support that you need. I'm sorry that things are a struggle for you right now.

I would like to thank everyone who participated in a mature and respectful way in this thread. I am locking the thread as we need to "limit our discussion" of religious matters, per our Community Guidelines, but I am appreciative of the support and respect that you have all given to our new and hurting member, as well as to each other.

Peace to all,
LMo
