I have to write I biography for my Pilates class and it is really hard for me to do. I'm afriad that if I share it with others, that they will not like me for who I am. The hard thing is just trying to write it. It brings back so many memories and aweful events that has happened in my life. How can I get it done and still feel good about myself? It's just so hard to feel good about what has been done in the past. I keep cuddling with my stuffed bear because it has been helping me through coping with it. Besides it's is also part of another assingment that I am doing for therapy. Between therapy and writing this biography is really tough on me. I feel like digging a hole in the back yard and having someone burry me alive. My homework is a chore...

Yeah.. thats a good idea.. run it by your friends here first...and I wonder.. how much detail do you have to give about your past? Do you have to give alot of info on the really painful stuff? or is that the point?

When I first started therapy I found myself unable to do alot of my homework and I really fretted about it,when in reality it turned out alright.

Hang in there.. and consider this.. the more you tell your story... the easier it gets every time.. the less painful it is... it is really freeing in its own way... talking takes its power away.

Good Luck! Faith

I'm sorry that you feel you have to share so much in a biography.

Why not begin with the basics, where you were born, what the family is/was like, what you liked to do or do as a hobby now, where you went to school, who you admired. It doesn't have to be a therapy script.

Pilates is an exercise- relaxation techniques program so maybe you don't need to go completely into detail about your whole life but focus on those areas that the class is about. for example

My name is Jane Doe. I was born in 1970. My first experience with an exercise program was when I entered kindergarten and we had to go to gym class. I really liked throwing the ball in dodgeball. Then when I was in high school we had to jog around the nearest 6 blocks surrounding the school. Becfore we would all head out the door for our morning jog we had to all sit down on the gym floor and stretch various muscle groups. I took Chorus in highschool so we were taught how to breath correctly to maximize our singing. After high School I kept up with the stretching, jogging and the breathing activities. usually each separate. Now being in this class I can review and practice using all the components - the breathing and stretching ... together to better help myself. As for life outside of Pilates I like to read, write, listen to music. I am a mother of 5 kids and a wife who is managing a household and family on a shoe string of a budget.

Theres a biography that not only discusses how the person in the sample came into the class activities but also tells a little bit about themselves so that others in the class can get a feel for the type of person that person is.

The good thing about biographys is that they can be as detailed or as short on details as the person wants them to be. Since its about the person there is no right or wrong way or what to include in it as long as it includes something of history about what the class is studying where the boigraphy is asked to be done in. So put in what you are comfortable with and leave out what you are not comfortable with.

Hang in there.

When I do any sort of homework I try to "want" to do it and make it "mine" rather than think of it as an assignment. Then I have fun and write it up the way I want it since, theoretically, it's for my benefit. Think of what you like, skills you're good at, and what you want to learn from this exercise or what challenges you about it and work with that. Put "yourself" into the assignment and they can't help but to see/like you as you are.

My teacher is actually looking for a different type of bio! She wants to learn about who we are and what has influenced our lives. So just giving a breif bio like that one probably won't fly with my teacher! LOL! Thanks for the idea though!

I am comfortable with everything I put in my biography and sharing it with other's doesn't bother me much. What I am more concerned about is how the audience is going to react to it. I have shared almost everything that I wrote in my bio with at least 15 people so it's not a matter of how comfortable I am with it, it's more how is everyone who reads it going to react. Different people react in different ways and a lot of times I get I feel so sorry for you when really all I need is a good job, I'm proud of you instead.
