This year I finally got a motorcycle and now my family paired up with one of my shrinks (I have three) and they are basically telling me i can no longer own/use it.....

No joy in mudville today. I just am incapable of seeing ANY positives in life. Everything sucks

As part of the DBT skills that I am being taught - the shrinks keep working on me to focus on long term goals or short term goals.......... I find this kinda triggering - because I (no joke) do not have any goals in life. I have earn my money, I have raised my two kids.... there really isn't anything left.

I don't understand. Why are they saying you can't own/use your motorcycle?

I have one positive in life for you. You have this forum where you can vent until your heart's content. The rest of us have our own problems but knowing that there are others out there who can help me deal with my issues gives me at least one positive to think about.

And why can't you own a motercycle? I say if it brings you joy, or you have fun with it, keep it and ignore those turkeys that say you can't own one.

Sorry about the motorcycle. I'm sure you were looking forward to riding it. Did they have a good reason you couldn't ride it? Were they concerned about your safety?

Sometimes I really have to look hard for any positives in my life, but I can usually find one or two. My daughter is always one of them even though she is grown, she is might light at the end of the tunnel. As long as I'm not a burden to her I'm safe.

I hope you can find some positive in your life, even if it is a small one. Anything to hang on to.

I can not - cuz they are freaking out about me using it.

clearly (in their minds) EVERYONE who even looks at a motorcycle will die. And if i cared at all about my family - then I MUST sell it. So, I guess I can either live in a bubble or a padded room or not live at all..........

three shrinks? it is too much, could you get rid of one of them, at least? (I know, I know, this is about the motorcycle but…)
You do not have to answer this, but if you are under guardianship or something, you still have rights, I will look for related materials and send them along
Oh, but, if this is about driving problems because of medicines or something, be careful, please! We want you to be here, not in Heaven, so…
A hug

thanks clara...

one shrink for meds, one for self-harm (DBT), and one for couples therapy.

All are needed..... and honestly - i do not GAF about safety anymore..... 110mph today in to work. I am SICK of life. it always sucks..... you may get a life or a couple smiles in a day, but the other 23 hours and 42 minutes are hell.

You do not want to have an accident, no kidding
I had one
I am in a wheelchair because of it. I did not die. i got an spinal cord injury and if you want to come to my Hell I am telling you, it burns a lot
Not being able to walk is just a small part of it. At least I move my arms, other people cannot even move their arms or hands, they are 100 per cent dependent, some of them are ventilator dependent
I do not use diapers, but many spinal cord injury people use diapers for ever
So...

We never know…
On the other hand, if you like your bike much, OK, could they adjust your medication?
Anyway, hope you make a good and informed decision
I wish you the best

If you told them you do a 110 mph I can see why they don't want you to ride it. No you probably won't survive but what if you take someone else, someone innocent, with you? Would that be fair? Not trying to be mean, just stating the obvious. I hope you find some happiness soon...your life is not over yet, is there not something for you to look forward to...grandkids maybe? Anyway, not sure why I felt compelled to answer, but hope you find a medication that will make you feel better more than, what was it, 18 mins a day? Good luck to you.

Clara, I really like your "If physical illnesses were treated like mental illness" pictures. Sums it up pretty well! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this!

I didn't say that I told them how fast I drive.... And since it is December - I would think it would be fairly obvious that I am not driving the motorcycle today....

So - IN MY CAR - I was up and over 110mph today. Needed to just to feel a little bit alive.

And as for harming others - I never, ever, ever would. I have always insisted that if/when that day comes - it will be far away from anyone else to ensure that I am the only one effected.

Oh sorry, I live in the desert of California where it is 75 degrees. I did not see where you were and really, it was more rhetorical than literal. Did so not mean to offend you. I guess I just feel some of your pain.

If your family is worried for your safety... would taking a motorcycle driving safety course (or whatever its called) put them at better ease? Not that you necessarily need it... but perhaps it would get the monkey(s) off your back...

Seems then like they are being a bit ridiculous IMO. Unless they have a valid basis for the fear of you driving a motorcycle (for example if you've threatened to use it as a means to your end) I don't see why you shouldn't be able to ride your bike. We all need release from the stress(es) of our mundane and sometimes terrible lives. If this is your release, then just do it. Screw em. They'll get over it. Somethings you just need to do for yourself.
