...been in a depression treatment center? Been an inpatient somewhere?
Do they only take people that are suicide risks?

I had a severe adverse reaction to medication once. No one knew this at the time, though. They just thought I was... crazy and out of control. My family felt they had no choice, but to call the police. Blah, blah, blah. I was an inpatient in a mental health hospital. They only kept me 8 out of the 10 days that I was supposed to be there. Just long enough for the medication to leave my system. That is my only experience with being an inpatient.

Has anyone ever gone to a Depression Treatment Clinic? What was it like? What do you do if you don't have insurance? Is it completely out of the realm of possibility to think I could find one that would take me?

The centers that I have looked into only treat depression as something that leads to something else... i.e. addiction, OCD, eating disorders, etc.

I just feel like I've tried everything else. I'm only a burden to the family I have left. They don't deserve this. I need to find help on my own, but I'm not sure where to turn to. I have little to no savings and no insurance. Can anyone make suggestions?

I was on an inpatient unit for 7 of the most miserable days of my life. I talked about being suicidal with only a vague plan. After seven days and a nearly $7,000 bill, I went home just as bad. If there is a university around you, maybe there are programs that they have. You might only get graduate students, but it's better than nothing. By the way, the inpatient stay was bad because all that I had there was supervision for safety. It was not for me. Specialized treatment for depression is very difficult to find, probably because depression is so difficult to treat...

When I did have insurance and was working in California. Kaiser permanente had a program called intensive outpatient treatment. You pretty much had to go on state disablilty because it was like 6 hours a day. Lots of groups and stuff. CBT. I have never heard of an inpatient depression only treatment center. That is a shame. There are plenty of alcohol and drug treatment centers. I have been to one. I was once inpatient in a mental hospital against my will for a full blown manic episode triggered by meth withdrawal when I got sober. They did have a treatment plan in there though. See the pychiatrist, go to groups, talk to the nurse every day about how you were doing. This was all in California.

If you don't have insurance they would probably send you to an iop program. They are pretty common now. When I did an intake I was on the fence and I believe the deal breaker was the fact that I had insurance. Pretty pathetic. If you are a risk to yourself or others they will take you. It's just if you are on the fence and there are cheaper options.

I believe there is a hospital around here that specializes in depression and does a great job of working with your t and follow up. They don't just throw you to the wind when you are discharged. It was actually my t that told me about it.

I was in an inpatient facility because I was somewhat suicidal. If it's serious enough, it's possible that a public hospital or city/county/state might cover the costs.

Most counties have some kind of program for low income. What state are you in? Did they expand medicaid? Maybe you can qualify now with Obamacare medicaid expansion. I was getting to see my pdoc for free here in Michigan at county mental health. But now the state has cut their funding by 60% and they are going to turn me over to a GP. I applied for medicaid but the expansion does not start until april 1st. I still don't know if I qualify. I applied for obamacare but I definitely can't afford 390 a month with 3000 deductible.
