I went to the hospital last night but they didn't have any beds available so I waited. They said that they might be able to get me in to another psych center which I'd never heard of.

Since I have an appt with my pdoc this morning they decided it would be best if I waited to see him. He may end up suggesting hospitalization tho cause I'm so low. My insurance decided to raise the price of a very important med cause now I'm in the doughnut hole with Medicare. I'm.on.ssd for my illness. They want me to pay 175 dollars for this med. I need it desperately.

I don't know what I'm going to do..my dr will.probably put me on a new med that I'll have to hope and pray it works. Has anyone else had this problem with their meds being too high you pay for? Or feeling like they really need the hospital and not knowing where to turn for help? I really need alot of prayers. God please help me.

You might be able to get a prescription from the ER. Sometimes hospitals will offer payment plans for patients who have no real money. Its worth trying.

I do understand about the financial end. I do have insurance, though it doesn't cover dental or psych., but they have raised the monthly premiums to almost $800 a month. That comes out of my pocket. If i'm lucky, I might make that after taxes in a month. Without the insurance, my meds would cost a thousand or more.

The health care system is going in the crapper since the new Obama plan has started. For those of us who need medications we can't afford, its very unfair.

Another thing to check is if the hospital or your Dr. have a compassion plan for people. I've had one hospital pick up the rest of the tab on a surgery and my GP allows for a couple thousand a year free. They won't just offer it, usually you have to ask.

To be honest, were I not living with some very good friends, I would be on the street. I hope your Dr. or insurance can help you out. Insurance companies are notorius for putting you on hold forever. Personally, I think they are hoping you'll just hang up.

I totally understand about the financial aspect of this illness. My first set of meds came from my family doctor's samples. I wasn't working at the time, so he was being helpful. Soon after starting a full time job, I decided to see a psychiatrist. My health insurance covered a part of the meds, but none of the doctor's visits. I couldn't keep up with it. Now, I just pray to God that my situation will turn around, so I can afford whatever I need to get over this thing.

I have gotten a number of meds for free through the drug companies. My mental health provider set it up and I didn't have to do anything so I don't really know how it works. Here they called it MAP. I do know that just about all the drug companies have such programs. Most don't advertise it on their websites. They usually have discount cards on their websites. Ask your pdoc if he is aware of it. Also ask for samples.

What is the med?

Thanks for yr replies. The drug is geodon. Since it went generic the drug company no longer gives it out for free. I just sucked it up and paid 175 bucks for the extra prescription. I.know that is outrageous but my sanity is more important. I've been going nuts without it. My actual dose is 160 and that is two 80s a day. The insurance only made me pay 8 bucks for 30. Then my pdoc wrote a script for 60 for 30 thinking that would keep the cost down but it didn't work so I ended up paying the 175..but it's worth it. Medicare sucks and yr right obama care has screwed everything up! I hate bipolar depression. I'm desperate at this point so that's why I paid for it. It's so baffling that I am on. Ssd for mental illness and then Medicare blocks me from getting my life saving meds. Cause off of them I get suicidal. I'm so sorry the rest of you are struggling with this same issue. It makes me not feel so alone. Thank you.

so why is a generic so expensive. There is something fishy about that.

I am about to apply for medicaid. The expansion does not go into effect here in Michigan until tomorrow. No application available yet. I am going to get up at midnight and apply. Hopefully they will have the online application up by then. If I get it we will see what meds they cover. I might be screwed on Fetzima.

ObamaCare for me would be 350 a month with 3000 deductible. 3000 deductible...that is crazy.

praying for you.
I have had to go off some meds before because of the price. But the ones that they did put me on instead, ended up working better! I hope that's the case with you too.
And at the hospital they are usually pretty understanding because they see that all the time.
I'm sorry that you are so low. Please know that you are not alone in this

Thx everyone for being so supportive. It means alot. Fact is I make too much money in my ssd payments to get financial aid from other programs.

I found a site that offers brand geodon for as little as $4 a month. I can't paste and copy on my iPad but when I'm back on a lap top I'll try to remember to look for it. I think if you google geodon, cost, $4 it might come up. It's supposed to work though 2015, but it might take time to get set up.

Hi Littlemiss
I was in the same situation with my meds. By accident I found there's something called QMB. Qualified Medicaid beneficiary. Depending on your income, you can be qualified for a subsidy to pay for your meds. It's one of those facts the government and state don't tell you about willingly. Try 1-800-633-4227 and ask for a SPECIALIST. Tell them you need help paying for medication. Due to my circumstances, I am now qualified for "Extra Help", which makes my meds (some expensive ones, like Abilify) only cost $2.90 Be sure to mention Extra Help when you speak with them. You may have to fill out forms about your finances, but it's worth it. Good luck!
Sorry...I missed the part about your income. This may not apply to you, but you can try.

Thx alot! You've given me alot of great options. Unfortunately the geodon 4 dollar card won't work since I'm on Medicare..I'll try the other one tho. You guys are too sweet. Thank you for taking the time to get these resources for me. Hugs
