Has anyone experienced this? Was it associated with your depression or was it the medication? I am experiencing difficulty recalling facts such as numbers. I am also mixing up memories such as recalling events incorrectly.
I also have just noticed that I am not encoding as much new information as I should. It is small things right now but it is enough to scare me.

I have already left a message for my doctors and will be pursuing this. I could use a little bit of knowledge as to what I may be getting myself into. That and I would love some reasons to stop freaking out

I'm sorry forgetting things is no fun at all.
But you're not the only one for sure! I forget things constantly. It may be related to my depression, or it could also be attributed to my PTSD, or narcolepsy. Or all of the above
I hope that your doctors are responsive!

Yes, medication. I would write down notes of how you are forgetting because it will help them decipher what is going on. If you recently started Lamictal I would push for a response because there is a risk of aseptic meningitis and that can be serious. There should be a warning on the FDA insert if you are in US.

I attribute it more to my depression but yes you definitely aren't alone in this haha. I seem to interpret dates and times wrong when I'm depressed or sometimes just forget things all together even more than my normal scatterbrained ways.

Sometimes I can literally get off the phone with someone and type the meeting time wrong into my phone. It's a bit odd and kind of discerning to be honest but I've found that when I'm feeling better it also goes away so I don't know if medication is involved? Or at least it wasn't for me.

Yep. My memory took a dive around last September and it hasn't been the same. I wasn't taking any new meds at the time.

Yes. With me I think it is due to anxiety.

There's a reason for depression sometimes be called as pseudo-dementia!
For me these kind of issues are the ones that troubles me the most. My memory is crappy.
And few moths ago I would wake up in the morning, meet with my class mates, and they would start to talk about some homework we had (in groups). Just then I would remember it. Otherwise I would be there with nothing in my head.
And the hard time I got to package. Always forgetting everything. My sister would ask me to dump the garbage and a minute later I would totaly forget it and don't remember it anymore, unless I was warned again, still, how many times I was told I would always have and hard time to remember.
I still do have a tiny little memory. But I think it is better, pretty cloudy then.

I have been experiencing memory loss for several years now. I contributed it to medication, I had 2 seizures several years ago, and/or depressive episodes. It seems to come and go, though. I haven't been able to pin it down to one cause or another. It did seem to get better when I got off Wellbutrin XL. I got "clearer" and felt more "connected" to my experiences.

However, I've never had a pin-point/photographic memory. I tend to have more of a "conceptual/contextual" memory. Randomly, I cannot recall specific dates or stats, but if I'm in the middle of a conversation, quotes of things I have read or stats/quotas will pop up from recall. Certain things will be a blur, but I can still recall how I "felt" in those moments. It unnerves me, but I have come to live with it... the fear of forgetting.

It helps to keep a journal when I have the energy to write.. that way even when I can't remember the specifics I can still go back and read what I was thinking and feeling.

I hope your doctor can give you answers, but just remember to be patient with yourself. You aren't failing or making mistakes, you are learning and growing. The only thing in life that is constant is change. Try to go with the flow, because stressing over what you cannot control is just pointless. Breathe deep, and try to get in the habit of writing things down until you can figure it all out.

Thanks everyone. You really know how to make a girl feel like she is in good company.

Here is the crazy thing though, my pdoc just got back to me and he says neither my depression nor the medication I am on cause memory lapses. And the thing is, I used to have a really good recall. I could cite entire passages from books from memory after only having read them once. So... This feels like I am losing my mind. Still waiting to hear back from my regular doc, but I don't know if they will do anything.

Anybody know of any research articles on the correlation between depression and memory issues? I may be going this alone (in the medical sense)

Zoloft for the depression and klonopin for anxiety. Sometimes Sonata for insomnia. All perscribed by the same pdoc and I asked about possible drug interactions.

People report side effects here:

https://www.rxisk.org/

I am coming off Zoloft because it makes me tired and "stupid". I failed tech tests a few months ago and then past after reducing it. It is not a major side effect listed and yes, memory is affected by depression. But when I started looking at timelines it was pretty obvious to me. I know now it effects your frontal lobe. I'd be curious about what is processed there. Different types of memory is affected by impairment in different parts of the brain. That might be another direction of focus you could take. In the meantime you could track good days and bad days. That kind of data is always helpful.

Actually I confused Lamictal and Zoloft regarding frontal lobe. And sorry but your doctor is a total liar....

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

>>>>Confusion, problems with coordination or memory<<<<<

Also, this letter is an extreme case but she was on klonopin too.

Oh my God! I thought I was the only one experiencing memory loss! I easily forget memories of recent things, mix memories, forget how to drive to certain places, etc . It's horrible! In my case, I think it's a combination of my depression & medication. Dr says it's only the depression. When I was younger I had such good memory! Where dis it go?!? Ugh
