as i expected he would. i had a three hour assessment in September and a two hour talk with the Pdoc yesterday and he told me that i'm not bipolarII. i am majorly depressed and laid out a plan for us to work with and i'll see him again in a month.

i had put myself on 40mg prozac about 6 weeks ago (the 40s were all i had and that is very high dose) and i've turned into a different person. no swirling the drain. no thoughts of suicide. actually excited about Christmas this year.....haven't been excited in about five years. am not isolating quite so much. still have the social anxiety though but i think i'll come out of it.

i now have the prozac (from pharmacist in Oklahoma) in 20s. i had called her for a refill and you will love this. with the company that the doctor had prescribed the 40s, the prozac was $69.00 for a 30 day supply. by changing companies and going with 20s, my bill was $15 for 90 days!!!!!!! so, i'll go on the 20s and eventually quit the xanax and he will switch me to another AD that will help me with the anxiety and we'll see how it goes.

the problem with being DXed bipolarII slowly came to me after about 18 months as i have no mania. to speak of. i'm always so low that i'm scared to death of where i'm at.

i really cannot get over having 5 hours with professionals here. the first guy was a psychologist and yesterday the two hours were with the Pdoc. Texas rates low on the chart for mental health treatment but i lucked out on the two people that i've dealt with. both people really listened and questioned me like i was on trial for robbing a Brinks truck. and i really do appreciate and respect that because my DX was given to me in about 20 minutes and then i was always on three to four meds at a time and never got better. just got worse. and angie knows that i only had a manic episode one time and she talked me through it. and it could have been something situational. i don't know about that one.

soooooooooo......i'm doing really well and like the Pdoc very much and am looking forward to better and better days. i even put up outside lights for Christmas and that is better than i've done in 5 years.

this is a cactus flower that i photographed at the ranch. i sorta feel as if i'm starting to bloom a bit now.......

merry, merry, merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas!

AWESOME NEWS! You have just proven the point that there are really decent professionals out there that do and will take the time to diagnose properly, thus prescribing properly. I wish you the best. Keep hanging those Christmas lights!

Pat,

So glad to come back here and see things are going well for you. I am pleased that you received good care and these Dr's took the time to really listen to you. Christmas is a pretty stressfull time of year and the fact that your outlook is so positive, is such a great thing. I too am looking forward to it all.

I wish you & your family the best this holiday.

hmm... interesting... DSM criteria states that a dx of a unipolar mood disorder (such as depression) is ruled out if the person has had even one episode of mania / hypomania.

what is interesting though is that often situational factors mean that someone isn't given a dx even though they meet dx criteria...

e.g., if someone meets dx criteria for a reading disorder (in that they can't read) then if people have tried to teach them (they have received sufficient instruction) then they get the dx of reading disorder... but if we find that nobody ever taught them how (they have never received sufficient instruction) then they don't get the dx of reading disorder even though they meet criteria.

it seems that sometimes cause does matter... and sometimes external / social causes exclude certain dx's (like what happened in the reading case and it sounds like what happened in your case) and other times not (ie with post traumatic stress which is caused by objective trauma necessarily).

i'm glad that you have found some people to talk to... and that things are looking up medication wise...

:-)

i keep thinking that the sky is surely going to fall and this will be over.

but, i had a great day yesterday (alone, for the most part) and my teams "Miami Heat" and "Tennessee Titans" won their games....

a friend brought by some enchiladas, pumpkin pie and chocolate cake for my dinner and i went to bed happy as a fat pig....... Pdoc changed my DX yesterday

today is sunny and i'm off from work and i have the entire day to clean and do laundry and read.......i'm even kiling my mean sister with kindness and she's terribly confused right now. Pdoc changed my DX yesterday

so things in Texas are "rockin"......... Pdoc changed my DX yesterday

OMG....i forgot something very important!!!! i was in a nearby town last week. sold some "high end" jewelry that i found in an unpacked box Pdoc changed my DX yesterday(guilt gifts from ex) and when the jeweler went to write the check he asked me my name.....i told him and he clutched his heart! as i was getting ready to go over the counter and administer my considerable life saving skills, he gasped "you're Pat_________?" i said yes.......wondering what was coming my way now.....

and he told me that he recently saw four of my big photographs in a museum in the southwest!!!!!!!!! they were on loan from private collections.

he described each one to me and then shook my hand so long that i thought we were going to end up being engaged..... Pdoc changed my DX yesterday that meant a lot more to me than that check did and that check helped big time!!!!! xoxoxox pat

p.s. Happy Holidays Generic Prozac!!!!!
