I have been feeling so worried about my continued and worsening memory and concentration issues that my pdoc referred me for a neuro psych eval. Pdoc thinks most of my problems are due to my meds, but he is reluctant to try a med holiday as we both know that would ba an absolute disaster as I am taking 10 or more meds.
I think I may be in the early stages of early onset dementia. I have already decided that I will not put my family through the pain that would cause. Has anyone experienced this? Any suggestions? The test is scheduled for the first week in June.

I had a neuropsych eval about twelve or so years ago. I also saw a neurologist for several years.
I don't remember the tests themselves being particularly scary. The results pointed at my underlying depression as the primary cause of my deteriorated functioning. I got the impression subjective judgment played some part in the process. They need to take a close look at those meds, your medical history and complete blood count (at least). I have had this concern too. (I'm 65. So it wouldn't even be that early an onset for me.) I spoke with my pdoc about it. But he just seemed to shrug it off. He gave me the name & phone number for someone to call if I wanted to get tested. But I had the impression he thought it was pointless. So I didn't call.

I believe an MRI could show what you fear or rule it out. I could be wrong, been a while since I've felt inclined to look at pics of various brain illnesses.
If PDoc feels it's meds, this could be a differential diagnostic procedure, before making adjustments to meds. ![]() Sent from my LGMS323 using Tapatalk |

we thought my grandmother had dementia. Turns out it was the combination of all her meds(she was on 15). We took her to a different doctor who was able to start her over and she ended up on only 7 medications. Her mind cleared right up and she was fine until the congestive heart failure set in. Taking a second look at all your meds might be worth a try.
