I've been doing a daily group therapy thing for the last two weeks. It's meant to last for three months! But I really can't see myself going for that long. I was initially going to go until Friday last week and then decide what to do about it but after ODing on Thursday night I wasn't exactly in the right frame of mind to think about it properly.

I just don't see how this is meant to be helpful for me. It is just a very very uncomfortable hour and a half for me 5 days a week where I sit dreading my turn to speak and not knowing what to say. And then I can't even seem to listen to the others in the group either...I just seem to zone out.

More often than not I come away from it feeling worse than I did going in, and that's not something I can afford to happen really when things are pretty bad as it is!

I just don't know if I should be giving it more of a go or just quit going already...

Note: WTF?! I can only have 12 smileys? I was gonna have 98!...imaging 98....it's important....there's a hidden message/hint amongst those smileys you see...

I've put down much of my thoughts in the pm but... Why do you dread your turn to speak? I don't judge you really..cause....I am the same.. I dread my turn to say my name whenever there's a new group and everyone should say their name and something more...

Don't you like to be in the center of attention in general or is there something else that bothers you at the groupT?

Edit: it's ok if you don't know btw... hugs...

Would you be able to speak to the person who leads the group? (if that's how things work?), perhaps express your concerns and ask their advice?

Hi Secret, are you one of those people that feels uncomfortable speaking in a group? Some people are that way. Did your therapists say why they chose group therapy for you? I agree with ToeJam about maybe speaking to the person who leads the group.

You should certainly speak to someone about this group making you feel worse, it could just be a timing thing and in a few weeks or months this would suit you better than right now. I think that sometimes we get pushed towards a treatment or therapy not because it is the right thing, just that there isn't a better option.
Thanks for this!

98 smilies?? Why so many?! Lol

Yeah I hate to be the centre of attention and I hate just talking about myself and how I am...put the two together and it's just a nightmare really!

Yeah I've always been uncomfortable in groups of people really which doesn't help. I don't really know why I was suddenly offered group therapy. It was when I was inpatient and they decided this was a better option for me than hospital...so yeah I dunno.

Yeah I feel like I've been pushed into this just because there isn't another option. It's like they're all out of ideas and if I don't give this a shot then I don't know what will happen.

You have saved our lives, we are eternally grateful! I love Toy Story lol

Well I didn't speak with him one to one but I did manage to say what I needed to (I think) in the group. It's like he knew what I was thinking anyway and practically lead me to say it anyway lol. Either way, he thinks and everyone else thinks that I should keep going and give it a proper go. So I guess I'll just see how it goes....
