I woke up to my mom screaming, who had found my cat, dead in our window because he got one of the blinds in-between his collar and neck, choking him to death. I had to free him, cutting his collar off from which he hung for hours. He's body was stiff and paws were blue. I was in shock and my whole body was trembling. The smell of him made me sick. The sight of his body haunts me now. How long did he hang there, why did he not cry for help? Its almost as if he committed suicide.
I had him for 13 years. I am sad he is gone, but more sad in the way he went.

I am sorry for your loss. I personally have a cat which I am very close too and would hate to lose him. Anyways, my condolences.

I'm so sorry, GenCat. A tragic death for your friend and a genuinely traumatic experience for you.
Do you have people/resources to help you through the days ahead?

My dog  mastered the "fetch" command. He would communicate he wanted something, and I would fetch it.

Sorry does sound a bit over used but I don't know what else to say.......We are here for you. You must be feeling awful. I am so sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

OMG how terrible!! I'm a cat lover and lost my 10 to a house fire in December. I know all too well the heartbreak of losing a beloved pet to an unexpected tragedy, which this was for you and your mom. It has to be so terrible for you - I can't even imagine. At least mine I didn't see - firefighters brought them all out - 8 of them were under the couch, 2 possibly escaped/have never been found. I was over in the neighbor's yard so didn't know til the next morning. I hope you have some very supportive people nearby. My family hasn't been very supportive - just in the very beginning - and it's been so hard. It doesn't just go away after a few days. I'm still mourning/grieving my cats, as well as home and belongings. It feels never-ending. You can always pm me if you feel the need. I am here, and my heart goes out to you. I now have a new cat in our new home, and we have blinds with strings so always trying to watch, but like I learned with our fire, you can watch as much as possible, but things can still happen. I always tried to be really careful with heaters, matches, cords, stove, etc., and it didn't matter in the end. Take care of yourself. Prayers are with you.

so sorry for ur loss. my cat died in jan. i felt like it was my fault. mayb i didnt take care of him enough. he was really sick and they put him to sleep. i still replay that day a lot in my head. it makes me so sad that he was in pain and i didnt know it. i got a new cat. i was gonna put a collar on him but the lady at the humane society said not to because he is mischevious and gets into things and he might get hung on something. it must have been really traumatizing to find him like that. i am so sorry.

Thank you all. I haven't let It get me down. I cried that day it happened, but haven't since. Ive been able to talk about it and let it sink in. Thankfully I have two other cats and two dogs to keep me company.

It's possible he didn't meow for help because he wasn't capable of it. He probably went peacefully, due to lack of oxygen. Keep him alive in your heart and thoughts and he will be immortal.

Just terrible. I'm so sorry. I cannot even fathom one of my dogs experiencing this. (I once came home and found my doxie sitting on top of his house with the Venetian blind chord around his neck. It was hanging loose. Thank god he did not move too fast or try to jump from his house to the floor...). I cannot even imagine the heartache. I'm so sorry.
