So for the past few weeks I've been shakey on my Prozac, I haven't been responsible and I haven't been disciplined about taking it. And now, I haven't taken it for 4 days (I haven't been able to access my meds due to private issues) and now I notice that before I go to bed, I've been thinking of suicide.

I'm not going to commit suicide. But the idea of taking a gun and shooting it at my head doesn't scare me as it normally would. Typically, I would never think of commiting suicide because it scares me. But for a few days now I've been thinking about it. Is it because I haven't taken my meds for the past few days, and for the past few weeks I haven't been disciplined about taking them as I normally am??

It could be both, either or neither.

One of the cruelly ironic things about being on antidepressant medications is they can contribute to the kind of mental and volitional fogginess that can make it difficult for a person to be consistent in taking the meds.

Do you have people (family?) around you to help you take the meds as prescribed? Please consider calling your prescribing doctor's office and tell them what is happening and what you are experiencing.

You need to get back on a stable med regime as soon as possible. I think you should talk to a doctor about the missed doses as it will take a while for the meds to reach the right therapeutic level once you start taking them again. Once you're back on meds then you do need to make them a regular habit, forgetting the odd dose once in a while shouldn't normally be a problem but stopping and starting anti-depressants is the surest way I know to make them poop out.

My birthmother was taking Prozac when she commited suicide. I see this med and some others, can make a person more depressed and relaxed to commit such an act.
I'm on Wellbouterin. high dosage.
perhaps it's better to change your meds to something else. JMO

You should take it everyday or if you don't want to take it taper off slowly. Missing doses and just stopping can mess you up pretty good.

Its possible the med caused it or played a role. It is also possible the med was just not working and it played no role.

There is a theory that a med may make someone feel just a little bit better and give them the energy to carry it out.

So it is hard to know.
