Does anyone have any tips to increase your productivity during depression? I have depression that renders me lifeless and the only thing I want to do is lay in bed for hours at a time. I am a college student taking summer classes and I've gotten nearly kicked out of my classes and am doing terribly in others. I know I need to force myself to keep making progress, even if at a snails pace, but I find it so difficulty to take school and/or life work seriously when I'm so sad all the time. Thoughts??!!

Welcome to PC! Is there a school counselor that you can see? Or maybe a Doctor? Sometimes with depression we need extra help, just forcing ourselves just doesn't do it. As I am sure you know. We have some good forums here that you can take a look at that might be helpful and just getting things out here does help too. Sending positive vibes your way!

Hello & Welcome, Halcyonlights. One technique is to attempt to start working without trying to be efficient. In other words, considerations of efficiency may just be increasing the initial friction in getting started doing things.
Also, take advantage of whatever resources are available for depressed students at your institution.

Working while depressed is extremely difficult in my experience. Something I would try is like setting yourself in a separate room for a while demanding that you complete X amount of work and then get to take a break to do something else, setting up a reward type system for yourself might be a good strategy, I try this sort of thing when I can't concentrate in general, it seems to help a bit.

i like to set small goals. when i was in college, i tried to look at all assignments ahead of time and started working on them in tiny bits. idk. i used laying in bed as a 'reward'. if i write one more page, then i will lay down for an hour. i will go to class and then i will lay down. or something like that. don't know if that will help.

Increase productivity?? Hell - my depression is very productive. It dominates my existence.
