Hello everyone,

I am experiencing acute anxiety, and my pdoc prescribed me Lorezapam for anxiety, as needed. Took my first pill today. Was wondering if this medication has helped any of you??

Yes, in the past I had an active prescription for Lorazepam (Ativan). It had a powerful sedative effect on me, which was good for sometimes but not for all the time. I used it sparingly, and it did a great job practically knocking me out when I really needed it.

For some years I haven't had an active prescription due to fears it could affect my glaucoma. It is now back under consideration due to its demonstrated powerful sedative effects on me.

Your experience with Lorazepam could turn out to be entirely different from my own.

Hi Avatar10.........It helps but be careful about taking it for too long of a time period, as it can become addictive........and, also, I find it can make my depression worse. I only really use it when my anxiety is so high that I'm in panic-attack/self injury status. I really try to use it at the most two times a week. I haven't really found anything that will bring my anxiety down, but not make my depression worse, but then again I'm kind of fearful of trying new drugs.
Thanks for this!

I'd kind of echo Rohag's thoughts. I took Ativan in early days but didn't have a really strong effect but at that time my anxiety was set to 11
I think that otherwise it would have gone as R's experience did. Too much, too soon, and not long enough. I've used clonazepam for a long time. It works very well. It seemed to have a longer effective duration in the beginning. Now I suspect I keep it around as a security blanket more than anything.
Thanks for this!

Hi everyone, it took my first 0.5m dose last night. I slept through the night which is good (no waking up at 2am and 4am), and felt a relief when I woke up this morning. However, it just took off the edge of my anxiety. That, plus the addictive component, make me think this drug might not be so good for me. Or maybe, the dosage is too low, I don't know...sigh...

Hi Avatar10, I take 1 mg lorazepam for anxiety and to help manage conversion disorder symptoms. It works well for me.

I will never give up hope!

I take it PRN, usually when I have to deal with people in public. It works well.
Thanks for this!

Glad you slept well. Taking the edge off is sometimes good enough. Whether you want to try another med is up to you of course. I found that taking the edge off allowed me to do more which in turn helped ease the anxiety. FWIW the PDOC who helped me the most was the one who switched me from Ativan to Klonopin.
If your anx is really bad then addiction isn't something I'd be concerned about at this point. Addiction is a concern long term of course but the fear of addiction is why far too many people aren't getting the anx or pain meds they need.
Thanks for this!

Thank you George. You are right, a lot of people are afraid of medication for any mental problem, which to me only prolongs unnecessary suffering. There's a lot of stigma associated with mental illness too. I think our society needs to learn a lot about mental challenges, and how to help people like us strive in all areas of life and not judge us.

I used to take Ativan to help me to sleep and help to control anxiety but now my pdoc took me off and I have been experiencing lots of panic & anxiety attacks before bed and during the day.

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this!! If I were you, I would tell your pdoc how you're feeling. He may give you a different medication for the anxiety.
