Why do I just want to stay in bed? What is it about being in bed that feels like the right thing to do? I guess the reason I ask is because if it's due to depression, will having ECT and hopefully alleviating the depression result in me staying out of bed?

for me, staying in bed allows me to be calm and escape as best I can from turmoil. It's my coping mechanism. I withdraw from the situation. Depression also can make me feel too bad and too tired to face anything, so the bed is welcoming.
I just noticed that you take trazadone - when I took that I rarely felt like I'd overslept and I'd sleep for at least 12 hrs. a night. |

Also, I only sleep about 6 hours per night on the trazadone. |

I was pretty much living in my bed by the time I was hospitalised and had ECT. I remember after about three treatments I was up and about with lots of nervous energy. Even after the first treatment I was quite wired for a couple of hours. It was a cumulative thing for me, after each treatment the energising effect lasted longer. After about 6 treatments (2 weeks) I was pretty much normal physically and my mood was significantly better too. I had 13 treatments in just over 4 weeks in all. I still needed anti-depressant meds and therapy but it did turn my life around. If you do decide to give ECT a go, you should know fairly quickly whether it will work or not.
