I'm just wondering if we have the right to use the Spoon Theory with depression and if so how any people use it?

I was having a bad day and my mom called and it was a conversation I just didn't have it in me to have at that time. I wish I had a way to say that.

"There is no spoon"
Pretty much how I feel most days.

I had never heard of it until now but I can see how it could apply.

maybe our own variation of it? ... we never know when we will run out of spoons or when they will be replenished

Guess I should have added at least one link. Not sure the wikipedia page really does it. But here's one.

That's true, but if I had said to my mom earlier "I don't feel like having this conversation" and then I get a "Why?" That almost makes it worse. She might not ask why, but explaining stuff to other people. Like I can say right now I have no spoons for sure. And my buddies my want me to play poker with the, penny poker with $5 nothing big, but I'm worried I just won't be able to handle the situation and it would be nice to have an easy way to explain to them why I don't want to without having to make an issue out of it.

Maybe having those kinds of conversations are for when you have more spoons available? otherwise it can easily be too much

this is where i first read about the spoon theory in connection with lupus - The Spoon Theory written by Christine Miserandino

Yeah, and that's why I'm thinking about getting my family and 3 closest friends to read about it so I can just say I'm out of spoons and I call back when I have more.

But you're right about not knowing when we'll run out. I was charged up this morning, having a fun day of shopping. But 4:00 I felt like poo but had already made dinner plans and really just wanted to go to bed.
Thanks for this!

i know that feeling, never heard of the spoons thingy but it makes perfect sense to me - some days i dont have any spoons and people keep asking for them...

I have always been the "fixer" in my familly- got a problem - P7 will fix it or find a way to fix it - which was fine till i got ptsd and major depression and diabetis lol

Now i have very few spoons and i try to use them for work ......... so that means i crash when i get home and my life goes to H*ll lol

did you go to dinner? sometimes when i do push myself it works out .....other times i crash and burn ...just wondering how you went and hoping it went well
