I've told everything about my depression to her. How should I tell her about my suicidal thoughts?

I am so glad you have told your friend about it. That is a big step for you. I dunno how you tell the rest other than to just tell if you trust her. Telling can take the power out of it.

I'm just afraid to tell her about my suicidal thoughts. I really need to tell her.

I think you should think about whether your friend can handle that information.

Have you told anyone at all yet, or is this friend your only confidant?

I think you may be on the verge of giving her too much information at once for her to process.

Why do you feel such a need to tell your friend? I think broadcasting one's suicidal thoughts is at best selfish and at worst malicious. It drags the person you tell into a terrible situation that they don't deserve. I don't begrudge my 'happy' friends' happiness and I absolutely don't want them to fret over my impending demise or feel obligated to take well-intentioned but futile steps to intervene. I know suicidal is a very lonely place but I think just talking about the things that make you feel this way is as constructive as the conversation is going to get.

Only tell your friend if you are getting professional help and don't expect her to do all the heavy lifting.

I also want to tell those close to me about the dark stuff in me....but have learned not to. I share some things with them, so they know when I'm struggling, so I don't feel like I'm hiding things from them.....but when things are really bad, I keep that away from them.

I have found it more helpful to tell THAT side of things to docs, therapists, people here. It's like....I wouldn't expect a florist to have the knowledge to fix my car. I wouldn't expect a mechanic to be able to do surgery on me. So on the "mental" stuff, there comes a point where I have to seek out "specialists" to help me deal with the issues.

For you, I'd suggest - ask yourself WHY you have such a strong urge to tell your friend. Are you hoping she can stop you from acting on your feelings? What do you hope to accomplish by telling her these things? Would it be better, perhaps, to protect her from that knowledge? What if SHE can't deal with it? Not everyone around me can handle my darkest moments. Doesn't make them bad,....just means they can't handle it. I hope things get easier for you, soon!
