I was misdiagnosed with BDP in September. I have changed community mental health teams and the new consultant wants me to go to the psychiatric unit of the hospital for a new diagnosis. Has anyone else had this experience?
Usually I get diagnosed where my CPN sees me weekly, so I find it a bit odd that they are sending me to the hospital for the new one, my CPN will be present with me for this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Never heard of that. Maybe they have a lot if confidence in the people at the psyche unit. Especially if it is a difficult diagnosis.

I was misdiagnosed with BPD. So many psychiatrists had trouble with that diagnosis and so did my family. It made no sense to me because it failed to describe my feelings and personality. All it did was describe an adverse reaction to an SSRI. The suicidal thoughts and behaviors stopped when I quit taking the drug. I got a proper diagnosis out in the community by a talented psychiatrist who observed and listened.
I've heard of people doing inpatient psychiatric assessments. They are usually ordered by the court or are done if major mental illness such as schizophrenia is suspected. Most people undergo assessments as an outpatient. The correct diagnosis should make a big difference in treatment.
