I am currently a sophomore and I have been really struggling this year. I have been hospitalized twice this semester for my depression and suicidal thoughts. Once for 7 school days and another for 5 school days. Before that I was already falling behind. I use to be an A student now I have Fs and Ds because my depression has been bad. Since I did miss so much I also don't understand a lot of the material. I'v been looking into different options I have and found online schooling. Has anyone had any experience with it? Any opinions? I am just at a loss for what to do now. I just want to get back on track and feel better and less overwhelmed and stressed. One of the problems would be the cost of online schooling. Anyway I just want to do this year and go back next year. I know I would have to find an online school that has credits I'd be able to transfer back to my public school but yeah. I just want to hear someone's input.

I believe that there is free on-line schooling in lost states. You will need to do a bit of research but I think it's a good idea to help you get back on track. Do your parents know that this is what you want to do? You should talk this over with them before you do anything else since they will have the final say.

Check out this website:
| K12 You can search by state. Notice if you live in a blue state, there are public online school options. I'm not sure how your state is, but I teach in Maryland and our schools have the option where they will send out a teacher to tutor you and you can do your schoolwork at home if you have a medical issue. Which I would think that severe depression *should* qualify. So, you could look into that option as well.

My daughter suffered a lot of depression as a teenager. She wanted out of her high school. She told me one day that if she stayed there she would end up being a coke head like all these other girls. That was all it took for me. So I got her in online school.
This was in CA and we used K12 as well. It didn't cost a thing and in fact they provided a computer and all the materials for free. In CA the school system had to pay them. She did ok with it but in the long run it was not great. The main reason being that she was at home all the time and that tends to make depression worse. Also you have to be self motivated unless your parents are really holding you accountable. Self motivation is very hard when depressed. I don't regret it at all and she did pretty good. She did not get enough credits to graduate and she did not graduate with her class. She decided on her own that she didn't want to get a GED and wanted a full diploma so she went to an adult continuing education school and got her diploma. They had a big graduation ceremony and I was so proud. She was so proud. She did it and she loved that school. Now she is in community college with a 3.5. Don't give up. If you get behind or don't graduate on time. So what. Just keep going in the right direction. | K12 I really liked their program.
