i took zoloft twice... once early in my depression. I had the common side effects, they threw me a little for a loop because it was the first antidepressant i had ever taken. once i got used to it it was fine. it made me sleepy and i took it at night so it helped me sleep.

very recently my pdoc added zoloft back into my mix. i am on wellbutrin, which may be working, but was also making me anxious. He added the zoloft to help with the anxiety. I took it at night expecting it to help me sleep, but this time it kept me awake. Even when I started taking it in the morning it was badly effecting my sleep at night. After a few months we switched from zoloft to celexa, which does help me sleep.

this illustrates an important point, not only do the reactions and side effects vary greatly from person to person, but they can even change completely in the same person. My guess is that in addition to the wellbutrin my body chemistry must have changed so that the zoloft had the exact opposite effect.

In general I think Zoloft has the same basic list of side effects as the other ssri's, but if you were sensitive to the side effects of one it may not be the same with Zoloft so it is definitely worth a try. Same with its effectivness... where one med works wonders on one person it may fall flat for another. It really is a good thing that we have such a variety of medicines now because there is always hope of finding one that is successful specifically for you. I hope that Zoloft works well for you. Let us know!
