My T often will tell me to "do" something and I will feel better and he is usually right. Sometimes it is just hard to do "something" even if you know it might make you feel better. Does anyone else use distraction to help with the mild symptoms of depression?

Yes, all the time! I've gotten very good at distracting myself in "helpful" ways (reading, going out to the store, cooking, etc.) and getting anything done like a chore helps with my self-esteem too.

It can be hard to make yourself do something when you sure as heck don't feel like it. But with anything, once you force yourself, it does get easier and better.

Usually, when I am feeling somewhat blue and out of sorts, I like to do something for someone else. Whether it be a phone call to help brighten a shutins day, or a quick visit or shopping for someone who is ill. Knowing that I've helped someone else usually takes me right out of the drink and back into the pink Does this work for mild depression?
