Ok, I have gotten some medication suggestions from others which include: Viibryd, Lamictal, Latuda, Abilify, Remeron, Wellbutrin, and Buspar. Does anyone have any experience with and of these for severe depression? I am looking for anything that will help.

I haven't personally tried those for depression .... I'm on a mood stabiliser (epilim). When depressed I'm on Cymbalta which I've found pretty effective.

Hope these meds work for you

I am already on Cymbalta without much help. I haven't tried any of the ones I listed. Just wondering if someone had tried any of them and if they worked well.

I have tried Remeron before. This one has side effects like most. I found this one to be a good medication. It increased my appetitie which suits me. I am over six foot and over 200 pounds but my body fat is low. I like the extra food it suits my exercise and goals of getting stronger in the gym. It is also sedating for many people . I have had some issues with sleep so I like that aspect. It did not put me to sleep but once I got to sleep I slept for 9 hours without interruption. Plus it did do what is designed to do: get me out of depression. For some people, maybe even most people, it does not suit them because they gain weight and find it so sedating they walk around like a zombie for most of the next day (its best taken at night). It also has less sexual side effects for most people.

I am currently on wellbutrin. In my country it is not subsidized and I don't have health insurance. It cost me about $3 a day. I have been on it for about 4-5 weeks and I am at the maximum dosage of 450mg. I am out or depression but it remains to be seen how much out of depression. It is often added as an augmentation to other meds in the USA. It is stimulating slightly which suits me during the day but not so much at night. It also has recuded my appetite which i don't like but hope that side effect lessens. It is a unique med becaused it acts on dopamine and norepenephrine and not on serotonin - a med in its own class. It is not regarded as amongst the more powerful meds.

Thank you so much for your reply! The Wellbutrin actually sounds like something I could try in combination with my Cymbalta. Does the stimulating effect last into the night if you take it in the morning? I could use that effect during the day, but of course I don't want to be up all night! My insurance should cover it without much expense, so I might give it a try.

Its a difficult question for me to answer. I am taking something that gets me to sleep and I was taking that before I started wellbutrin. I intend to come off that med even if it means I can't sleep much for a while. I think Buproprion will not stop me from sleeping as it is not a particulalry strong med. For you it might be influenced by the version you take. Buproprion comes in different forms. Extended release allows for a single dose per day. There are versions that allow twice a day and three times a day as well I am pretty sure. I take both extended release and twice daily dosing because that is the only way in my country I can get to the maximum dosage - 450mg. I take 300mg single dose plus 75mg in the morning and 75 at night. My best guess based on a lot of experience with depression and depressed people is that you will sleep. It might take a bit of time to settle into that side effect. Its like everything with AD's you won't know if you get that side effect until you try it. By the way inform yourself on all the side effects before you start. Side effects can be persistent and perhaps even permanent. For me the trade off with getting side effects as opposed to being depressed is worth it. Because nothing much is worse than severe depression. Wellbutrin has so far give me a mild case of ringing in the ears. Idk if it will go away or not. Its up to me to use techniques to not let that side effect bother me.
