Has anyone ever tried taking natural supplements such as 5-HTP, GABA, L-Tyrosine, SAM-e etc. for depression and or anxiety? If so, did it help? I'm just curious.

Some here have reported huge improvements from SAM-e or B vitamins alone.

I have tried 5-HTP, GABA, L-Tyrosine myself, but I didn't notice any particular change (although I think I feel L-Tyrosine as a very mild pleasant stimulating effect).

You can buy a liquid form of B vitamins that you hold under your tongue for 30 seconds and then swallow. It's been helping me a little bit.

5-HTP made me feel super weird like I didn't have emotions or something.

Supplements can be very good, but if you take medication, it's worth checking with a pharmacist as sometimes they can interact with medication. Good luck.

Supplements can counter act against meds, so one or the other. Supplements take a lot longer to work than meds in a shorter time. If this is not being able to pay for your meds WalMart offers a program to help pay for most of them. It is something to check into. tc

I took SAM-e quite a few years ago with terrific results. There was quite a problem at that time with inconsistent potency between batches, though. It's supposed to be a lot better now but can still be a problem sometimes.

I'd take a 30 day supply with obvious good effect, then as soon as I switched to a new package, it wouldn't work. I got frustrated and went back to Zoloft.

I would recommend SAM-e for mild depression and L-theanine for mild anxiety.
Thanks for this!

Yea counteractions are a big issue, and not just with psyche mes. I really wanted to try St. John's Wart, I've read a lot of good reviews from others who used it to treat depression. The problem for me was I could not take it with birth control.

a few months ago i was tapering off of anti depressants. i was still taking a little and the 5-HTP i took made me have full body tremors, while puking for 3 hours straight. i overdosed on serotonin.
def check with doctor first. i also heard of people starting a supplement by taking a small amount at first, to see how it affects them.
i think vitamins are the better bet. i take vitamins b2, b6, omega 3, d, and magnesium. i will not touch a supplement again.
Thanks for this!
