Hey guys. Recently, I have been going through a very tough depression. I have absolutely no appetite. I use to weigh 136 lbs and since my trip to the ER yesterday (change of medication, paxil ---> prozac) I am down to 122.3 lbs at 5'3. I do not have any appeal towards food and I am trying to "drink" my calories (coffee). I also have no appeal to even drink water. I was severely dehydrated when I went to the hospital yesterday. This is just to overwhelming for me.
I am having dizziness, waking up nauseous, dizzy, stomach pains, etc because of the prozac/paxil change. I generally feel down and sick most of the day. Crying randomly and all of that.
I don't know what I should do. I told my therapist about this today and he told me to try to eat and drink water. Which I am trying too.
The EMT's were called during therapy because I ended up passing out and they advised the same thing.
I called my psychiatrist when I was in the ER yesterday morning and he said to call on Monday after 11.

Depression has taken away my appetite and on top of that a change of drugs sounds like a double whammy until your body can get used to the new medication. Depression drugs have made me so incredibly nauseous that I couldn't eat anything.

Trying to drink water or juice if you can to stay hydrated is very important especially with the dizzyness.

Sorry I know you already know that. Problem is "I can't eat" suggestion is "Try to eat" yea that's not very helpful I wish I had something better to offer. Keep something small and easy like crackers handy so you can eat small bits at a time to keep your strength up until you can talk to the doctor on Monday.

My appetite has been non existent the last few weeks. While most have been stuffing themselves with food and drink I've been sat barely able to eat a sandwich.

I've felt extremely low and I think of it is the stress on our mind and body. I used to be a comfort eater but these days I'm a happy eater so it makes sense that I don't want food.

I've been living off caffeine free fizzy drinks which I am.fully aware is no good for me but at least I can manage these drinks so I'll go with it for now. It won't last forever.

Can you take an appetite stimulant? Maybe even a Colorado/Washington green plant?

Dehydration can cause stomach issues and many other problems. Try to stay hydrated at least or you will have further issues to deal with.

Being depressed means your brain is in low gear and it can affect all of your systems. I always lose appetite when I get really down. It will get better as the meds take effect, hopefully. In the meantime try to eat easily swallowed things like yogurt, pudding, ice cream, even milk shakes. Make sure to drink at least a quart of plain water a day, as that is the minimum to stay hydrated. (A quart is 4, 8oz glasses or about 6 coffee cups ) Not that much really.

Do go back to the ER if you have further issues. You MUST force yourself to drink and eat if you want to not be on IV to re-hydrate.

depression used to increase my appetite, and i would binge on the unhealthiest foods. that's how i got to be nearly 300 pounds. now though, since my depression has been getting worse, i have little interest in food. i don't enjoy it like i used to. i'm never that hungry. i've lost 20 lbs. if it weren't for my mom encouraging me to eat still, i probably wouldn't.

try some nutrition shakes? they're really good to get the nutrition/calories you need to survive when you don't feel like eating.
Thanks for this!

How much prozac are you taking? The top of my head, inside, feels cold if my dose is too high too fast, and i feel woozy.
