In the last two weeks this is what I have had to deal with: my apartment complex that I moved into the end of Oct. tells me that I owe them $99 that I should have paid when I first applied for an apartment. Now this is a big deal for me because I am on disability with limited resources. My sunglasses that I have had for quite a few years broke (remember, limited income), a new friend that I had met the first part of Jan. told me that I live to far away and in a bad neighborhood where people get shot ( I am new to the city and live where I can afford to) so he does not want to see me anymore (I really liked him), I got a speeding ticket, I bought vodka that I had to put on my 0 balance credit card, got very drunk (at home), felt like crap the next day (which I deserved) my dog (and best friend) got sick, my regular glasses broke and in order to get just a few groceries I had to use a gift card I received at Christmas and I am broke until next Thursday! I am on depression meds but sometimes I wonder if they do anything at all to help me. I AM depressed!

Is the apartment that you moved into a Federal building? If so, I'm pretty sure that they need to give you 30-day notice when requiring additional funds of some kind. Sorry that your friend isn't willing to come visit you. Usually, these buildings aren't in the greatest neighborhoods, nor are they in the best of shape.

I live in a Federal building, for disabled people, downtown. Not exactly the nicest place to be. But, there are a limited amount of options out there. Then I remind myself that I am doing the best that I can.

I do recommend getting a social worker. They help SO much! There are lots of programs out there, as well as ins and outs. Social workers really can help you with a lot of areas.

There are other resources as well besides government ones.

Salvation Army and Saint Vincent DePaul are two that come to mind. Here in my community they both help people with rent, heating bills, gas money, car repairs, etc., along with giving away food twice a week.

Catholic charities is another one. A social worker can guide you in finding those resources.

In Indiana it is Family and Social Services Administration
