I've been taking St. John's Wort for about a month now. Should it have had an effect by now? And how strict is it generally with application times? With three times a day my timing does vary from day to day. Sometimes I take the first two together, even, although that's probably not great. But yeah. How finicky is it about when you take it? And how can you tell if it's working? I had a pretty bad day for the depression just two days ago, which was discouraging.

I think it works for some, not others.

Plus it has warnings on mixing with some other Meds. Are you taking Meds ?

I did do some research before trying it and so I found out about how it can react with other meds. I am not taking anything prescription, but as a precaution I even stopped taking my daily vitamin. I hope the lack of extra iron in my body (I take the vitamin because of how quickly I become iron deficient) isn't counteracting against any good the St. John's Wort might do.

St Johns wort is really a natural source of a substance similar to an SSRI type antidepressant so must not be taken with any antidepressants due to serotonin syndrome risk which can be fatal.

It isn't sustained release or anything, so if it says take 3 times a day, you probably need to do so in order to keep a consistent amount in your blood.

It usually takes 4 to six weeks for any antidepressant substance to take effect and my pdoc will wait 2 months before deciding it's not helping.

I use alarms on my mobile phone to remind me to toke my meds as I have to take them at precise times and would never remember without it.

Are you under 25? There are issues with taking antidepressant substances while your brain is still growing, it keeps developing until age 25. If you are young, especially under 18 you need to be careful, usually prescribing for young people should only be with the supervision of a Pdoc and they can increase suicide risk in young people.

Best wishes,
