I have started seeing a new doc. My conditions have improved a little, but the improvement is so slow that I feel hopeless. I am not working, I used to love reading story books earlier, now I cant find any interest in them. I cant seem to enjoy anything. There have been days when I have not been able to get out of bed the whole day.

If you or the other members here can suggest to me ways of coping with my depression. Thanks.
oh desiree...I wish I could help...I want to help....maybe you can help me...keep talking about your depression...I do have something now...please check with your doctor and make sure you don't have any physical problems that are causing your depression...or making it worse...

there are some very caring people here on this depression forum...

thanks justafriend306---we need to start helping ourselves and each other...we can no longer just keep counting on the doctors for our help..they just have drugs for us...what kind of life is that
Thanks for this!

yes...I also lost the person I was... never to return...I FEEL SORRY for all of us...
all our hurts are hidden away...I hope they can come out here ...there are so many losses...but there is HOPE...I have changed a lot in many ways...some good...some bad...but that is my life...and we are not LOWER down the list..we are human beings with an illness that mostly is not seen and not understood...we need to come together and support each other in our journey toward health...whatever it takes...I am very old now and still want help... and want to help...

I was talking to a primary care doc yesterday...she said that depressed people are not getting adequate attention to their physical problems....so she believes that it makes the depression even harder to treat...

In my case I find my physical condition deteriorating as my most recent bout of depression is entering its 4th year. I am 57, but feel 20 to 30 years older than that. Doing basically nothing for over 3 years leaves me so out of shape. Muscles and brain have atrophied. Not sure how much longer I can last - or if I even want to last. If I was braver I'd be dead...

I think depression is awful...and when you add on other problems....and often there are other things like panic attacks...the first panic attack I had was terrible...where the hell does that come from...we need to talk about these things....I need to talk about them...people don't want to hear about it...but these experiences are there and we need to put them in place....please join in with your baggage stuff...it is time to complain loudly without being told to shut up...

fuzzy help me here

that 15 minutes was programed to give a drug...that is the program...doctor wants to give drug...patient wants to take a drug....no thought by either about the cause of depression...just make it go away quick...LIFE isn't that way...AWFUL...

Hi!

I dont have any other medical prob. I had an underactive thyroid gland once, but I am being treated for it. My depression is totally related to neurotransmission abnormalities in my brain.

I take 2 mood stabilizers, lithium SR 400mg and divalproex sodium 250mg and an anti-depressant fluoxetine 20mg.

My severe depression has improved a little but still I am not functional. I dont work(previously I used to work as an HR professional) and neither am I able to do housework. Even self care seems to be a huge job.

How long does getting back to normal generally take with the kind of meds we have now? Is 1yr enough?

Please help me. I need all of your support.

how closely is your thyroid function being watched...people in the usa with mood disorders tend not to pay close attention to physical problems...
Thanks for this!

How do you know that is true?

Have you considered whether the 5 drugs you are on might be adversely affecting your brain?

Did you know that fluoxetine (prozac) is a fluoride, and fluoride is generally classified as a neurotoxin?

I do a TSH test every 6months. I was hypothyroid which may have caused the depression, but in my case I think it is the neurotransmitters and the nerve signalling. I take thyroxin sodium 75mcg every morn.

I feel I lack energy coz of this faulty nerve signalling. My eyes have dark circles and look tired even though I sleep over 8hrs every night. I want to walk(as a form of exercise) more than 30mins every day, but sometimes I cant manage even that.

It seems as if I am engulfed in a wave/bubble of depression.

Thanks Budfox. I dont take 5drugs. I take 3. lithium SR 400mg and divalproex sodium 250mg are the mood stabilizers. And I didnt know that fluoxetine hydrochloride was a fluoride and a neurotoxin. I thought that it increases the extracellular levels of the neurotransmitters(brain chemicals) serotonin and dopamine in the brain that somehow helps to decrease depression.

I think my meds are good and I have faith in my new doc.

Blood glucose, triglyceride, hdl I did a long time back. Generally my blood glucose levels are normal, though there used to be a prob with ldl and lipoprotein. I take rosuvastatin calcium 10mg every night. I guess I'll have to see my cardio soon with all these test reports. I have been postponing his appo coz of my depression.(I started seeing my cardio after I experienced chest pain and breathing probs and had to undergo an angiogram, but it came out normal). I will give you the numbers as soon as I get the tests done. BTW I have been having quite bad breathing prob for the past 1.5-2yrs for which I have to take anti-allergics and inhalers from time to time.

thanks...don't wait because you may be sitting on physical problems that are causing brain problems....and there is some debate about what is a normal blood glucose....I am a perfectionist about some things...and this is one...I have seen so many people with pre-diabetes and they don't take any action.....
pre-diabetes can be reversed...and there is a link with depression...

and I am no longer interested in money or recognition...I want the truth
