So I got a new diagnosis today... Not an official diagnosis just something they want me to consider. I know a little about BPD but not much. I've read about it before to see if it applies to me but I was never sure. So today I'm reading again with a different mindset and I can see some traits but on the other hand the stuff I'm looking at reads like a horoscope... i.e. I think it applies to me but that's because it might apply to anyone reading it.
It said you need 5 or more traits and I think I only have 2 or 3. I don't look at diagnoses as a label but more as a way to guide understanding and treatment... so if it ends up not really applying to me I can still use those traits that I identify with and see if I can get some help... I am SURE they inform my depression. However: F#@& And yea I've been looking in the BPD forum. ("F#@&" because even though I don't consider it a label it is something new to deal with today on an otherwise stressful day)

Hello dexter: Quite a few years ago now I read the book Lost in the Mirror: An Inside Look at Borderline Personality Disorder by Richard Moskovitz. I've never been diagnosed as having BPD & probably couldn't be today. But reading this book I felt strongly there was a time I probably could have been. I've been told that BPD tends to burn itself out as a person ages. So I surmise that perhaps this is what happened with me. But I'll never know for sure. The book, however, was most enlightening regardless...

Thank you Skeezyks, I am looking at this book now. Looks like a good purchase for me whether I am ultimately diagnosed BPD or not.

Theres another good book that was referred to on another forum and I found it good so far. Really made me look at myself and see the traits of the disorder. Even though you're not fully diagnosed reading about it can be helpful and can be a God send as it can help you see where you can move forward in getting better and living a happier life. The book is called The Borderline Personality Disorder Survival Guide - Alexander L. Chapman I have the ebook if you want it. Just pm me and I'll send it to you.

Dexter,
I was diagnosed with BPD a few years ago. It is still a diagnosis that I just don't know alot about. I know that I really do struggle with the abandoment issues. But the first thing my therapist did was give me a set of videos to watch about BPD. unfortunately they were for the professional and talked so much about how difficult Borderlines are to deal with. how needy, manipulative, etc. So needless to say, I didn't delve much more into the diagnosis. But I may check out that book. |
