About a week ago I saw an interesting experiment done on CNN by Anderson Cooper where he wore some ear buds and was listening to voices that would be similar to what a schizophrenia victim might hear. They had him try to perform some simple tasks while hearing these voices and he failed miserably. Then he went outside on the city streets and tried to navigate around and had trouble as well. This could've easily been done to show what depression feels like too. I could easily supply all those negative thoughts to put on to the tape. This experiment would help normal people understand what it's like to have some of these ailments.
Thanks for this!

When I told my therapist, she said it gave her shivers up your spine. That's how effective she thought it would be!
Thanks for this!

I think this is fantastic. The clip posted doesn't make clear that this is just a small glimpse into one aspect (one symptom) of mental illness that might appear as a part of depression, bipolar, psychosis, or schizophrenia, or something else. I plan to share this with my friends.

Yeah Dex, this experiment could easily be applied to other forms of mental illness. I want my wife to see it...

Two other items that might be of interest to your wife.

I love this one but it tears me up (both meanings of the word) to watch it:

This is a comic written by a depression sufferer. Her other stuff is excellend and very funny but these depression comics are honest and much of the experience resonates with me (your experience may be different)

Hyperbole and a Half: Adventures in Depression

Hyperbole and a Half: Depression Part Two

My favorite part is in part two the analogy about people trying to help her with her fish.
