Tomorrow I have a med review booked with my pdoc. The plan is to discuss my diagnosis and I'm pretty anxious about it. Four years ago I was diagnosed with BPD and never fully agreed with it so have spent all this time questionning it and trying to say they were wrong...
I am finally being heard and some other people involved in my care including my T also disagree with it. It really is now just a case of making the pdoc see it too. This is what I have been waiting for for the last four years and now it's finally here I'm scared. What if it doesn't go my way and pdoc still says BPD...? I don't want this label anymore. It's not me. |

Kudos to you for not buying into labels easily.
In your own self interest & future well being, if you want this thing (uncertainty, doubt) out of your life forever, why not get an independent 2nd, 3rd ... opinion? However, in the event that it is BPD, then the truth would set you FREE! You cannot correct an issue if you are being treated for an entirely different one. In the end, only you would lose. Get other opinions to make sure. This is about YOU - not them. Again, kudos for not mindlessly accepting a diagnosis - too many people do. And the fact is, medical professionals make mistakes too. Good luck ![]()

HaloweenSkye, I hope the appointment was constructive for you!!!!
We're not our labels, they are only really a short hand summary of symptoms. I hope you can find a way of being which you feel happier with, whether you have a "label" or not. After all, you're a human being and that is more relevant than any labels or ticks in boxes. Good luck as you look for a more satisfactory way forward for you ![]()

Good post
![]() I'm sure I'm not the only one here who noticed an NHS worker looking through the form they shoved at us in such a noticeably rushed manner.. And most of us are smart enough to know what not to say especially if we have previously consulted a doctor who disappointed us.. And then they wonder why some people "don't get better"... You're on the right path... (From what little I know about the NHS and its machinations..) ![]() Quote:

It did go well! Thanks everyone
![]() We went through the criteria for BPD one by one and agreed that I only met two of them. Therefore I can't have a formal diagnosis of BPD! Before being diagnosed with BPD it was thought I had recurrent depression. Today she said it was dysthymia with major depressive episodes and personality disorder traits. I'm happy with that. Now just waiting for the letter to go to my GP and it will be on my records. |
