Hi Just though I would express my opinion that music has real benefits for people suffering with mental health issues.

Since being diagnosed I have found myself listening to music most the time. But it's really helped me especially when I'm feeling anxious or down. Maybe most of us already know but for those of you who may have not tried it you should give it a go

Music is great, I agree. There's music that I listen to regularly, and then there's music I listen to mainly when I'm in a depressive episode.

I found the most wonderful playlist over a year ago. I was going through an especially rough time and it helped tremendously. I still listen to it frequently when I need to relax or just take my mind off how I'm feeling.

It's lots of lullabies, soft music, very gentle.

8tracks radio | when you arise; you will be home (33 songs) | free and music playlist

Also it's great to just pop on your headphones whenever you're overwhelmed. I never go anywhere without a pair of earbuds and my iPhone.

Music has always been a big part of my life. I even find calmness in slightly harder music like Slayer, Sepultura and Obituary during the daytime. Nine Inch Nails, The Cure and The Smiths makes me feel really good about as close to happy as I get, which some find odd. I mentioned in another post that "How will I Laugh Tomorrow" by Suicidal Tendencies is really cathartic when listed to from beginning to end.

I have a short playlist that never fails to help me sleep, it is a mix of The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, REM, Morrissey and Fleetwood Mac. I am usually out before it is halfway through.

Strangely, some people have told me my musical tastes makes no sense.

I have read that music with a lot of drums and bass help the brain produce dopamine? Or something to that effect. That kind of music does seem to help me. Absolutely nothing sad or emotional, I can't take it. I do like instrumental jazz a lot.
