Hi. My habit is to seek out horrible things on the Internet and brood over them. Last week, for instance, I found a website where criminals tell their stories. Today I found a Yahoo Answers post about
Possible trigger:
What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Hello mindmadness: Well... STOP! Stop looking this stuff up on the internet! What you are doing is self-abusive & probably addictive in the same sense on-line porn is addictive. If you find you simply cannot muster the willpower to stop, then reach out in real life for help. Consider seeing a counselor or therapist. Perhaps put your computer into the hands of someone in your family, or a trusted friend, to hold for you for a while. (Just say you need help with spending less time on the internet.)

I don't know what it is that is driving you to do this. That would be something for a mental health professional to help you figure out. As I think you already know, this practice is doing you no good. But you are going to have to make the first move if you are going to get beyond it.

Hi Mindmadness, The Skeezyks is right! The only way to stop is stop.

I don't say this lightly because and habitual behaviour is hard to stop but no one else can stop for you.

Is there any way you could take a break for a few days where you don't go online at all? That could give you a head start.

You might find this link helpful. It's on a site to help people who self harm, but I think the principle would apply to your behaviour as well. Both are "addictive" or compulsive habits.

Best of luck and all good wishes.
